Homebrew USB Frets on Fire (Guitar Hero -esque) Controller

All but the visually impaired will immediately notice that this isn't a robot. Nevertheless, it discusses some interesting electronic, interfacing and mechanical construction techniques.

The aim is to make a guitar-like controller for the excellent Frets on Fire game. I blame 668 for introducing me to this notion. Once you're addicted, I encourage you to blame him, too.

Color Sensor Algorithm

I know the video quality sucks I just wanted to give a view of  what it is doing. The black tube has the LDR in it to hide stray light. Below is a tabl eof the values I got for Red, Blue and Green when different color soda caps were put in front of the LDR. Now I need to take the raw values and put them into some sort of algorithm that looks at the difference between the values before a cap is put in place and after to determine the cap color.

 

 

Hand held battery vacuum cleaner

I bought a cheap battery powered vacuum cleaner from dealextreme to build into Ozzy. The idea was to build a front mounted vacuuming attachment as inspired by emullers vacuum bug. I was pretty skeptical of its sucking power and for about $6 with free shipping worldwide I wasn`t expecting it to be very useful. Now that it has arrived I can say yes indeed it does suck! In a good way!

push-pull tri-state motor driver

I am working on a small bot that will use 1.5v pager motors and run from 2 AAA batteries.  The brains will be an 8 pin PIC. So I am looking for ways to conserve pins as much as possible.  I have been inspired by the Y bridge  and tri-stating work that I have seen here, but I am really aggressivly trying to reduce the part count on this bot.

Review: Ro-Bot-X uServotino

Introduction

Now, for the next in a series of reviews on Ro-Bot-X's boards. This one is on the beta version of the uServotino. It is an ATMEGA328 custom board with the Arduino bootloader pre-installed.

Flea Market Find, Crawler Bot

Found this RC rock crawler missing battery cover and remote at our local flea market. For only $2 thought it would be a good start for a bot. Will use the arduino that I already have for this I think.

Disassembly was straight forward, 4 screws on truck shell 8 screws on board cover and all is exposed.

BoB the Biped and Me: We celebrate the Seahawks! (updated)

Just a place to put a link to the video of BoB dancing while I applaud. I'll update with more info in the future. Gotta meet my buddy at the pub in a few minutes, hence the brevity.

There are four total dance moves, I think the video only caught three of them (they're randomized).

Objectives:

- Low power node (using an atmega chip)

- Measures: temperature, humidity, luminosity, soil moisture

- Reports it back to a central node (via nRF24L01+ modules) at specified time intervals
