I thought I would pass along Brian Santo's article "25 Microchips that Shook the World" from the IEEE Spectrum magaaine.

It makes some interesting reading.

Just think, all you "Wintel" folks were almost called "Winola" folks.

I still use some of those chips today such as the 555 and 741. The 6502 and Z80's were the first processors I learned to program in assembly.

Great post, it's always interesting to read the back stories of some of these chips and to realize damn...they've been around for how long?!!?!  :D

 

Love the sparc and the pic included for it...man those things were/are awesome....
