Seperating SRF005 rx/tx

Ant's picture

Hi All

I got my  srf05 in the mail today and am wondering if I can seperate the transmitter and reciever and mount them further apart? I want to use them as 'ears' on my bot. Does anyone know if they need to be as close together as they are on the board? I'm thinking moving them apart may change the acoustics(right word?)?

Thanks

Ant

I know it only said about the beam pattern. However, it also shows the general functionality, and that tells me that moving them apart is a bad idea :)

But sure, go and give it a try :)

I don't know yet how well it works, but it still measures ok on the bench.

Sorry for the bad quality pic, they are mounted on some 'antennae' on top of his head

Wohoo! Cool :D

I like the way you design! :D - And I hope you prove me wrong - actually when you have them this close, and nothin in between them (I thought you where going to have them on each side) it just may work. Again, the tech spec, it says that they have a quite broad "baloon-shaped" working area - and as long as they are close enough to be within that, it should work.

Perhaps make them point just a tiny bit towards each other. Just a TINY - or at least not a tiny bit away from each other..

Yeah, i thought I was going to mount them on the sides, but I liked them on the top. They are fairly adjustable at the moment as the antennae can move, which will be good to get them right, but bad if they move around. I don't have time tonight to put it all back together, so we'll see over the next few days. Thanks for your walkthru and all the info frits.

Uh! Bad idea. Leave them, or they will only look good :)

Thanks for the reply frits. I read the page you reffered to but I took a different meaning. If you are talking about the bit that says "Changing beam pattern and beam width", I think that is talking more about the the beam width from the transmitter. It also had the datasheet for the transmitter and receiver, it didn't mention anything about distance apart. I might give it a try, what the worst that can happen.
