Let's Make Robots!

So I'm still thinking about buiding my LED array, but I'll try changeing my strategy.

has anyone used a MAX7219 LED-displaydriver with a Picax? it seems quite a few have done this but I'm finding it hard to find good schematics and examples of how to wire it all up.

any Ideas of how to start coding for it?

There are some schematics in the Arduino playground for the MAX72XX chips. Naturally the code would be different, but wiring should be similar.

Maxim is still sampling these chips. I got a pair of them for free about a year ago. Can't beat free ;)

thanks a lot!

just ordered the samples.

hope they come soon.

I'll have to read up on the code needed to get these to work :)

that sheds a bit of light on the subject

this guy explains it fairly well too: http://www.picaxeforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=10490&highlight=MAX7219

this chip isn't that expensive and seems like a much better alternative than driving the LED's from your processor.

This guy did it. Not quite a matrix, but it should give you a starting point.
