Let's Make Robots!

I love the look of Polymorph. It's a plastic material that becomes soft like dough at only 62 degrees celcius, and remains shapeable until it cools down to around 50 degrees. under that temperatur it behaves like normal plastic, you can cut it, drill in it, glue it together, sand it and paint it. And if you need to reshape it; just dip it in your teacup until it gets hot again. For more details check this PDF on specs. For those who are familiar to the swashbot, this is what he used on #3, the brand he uses is Shapelock.

The only problem is that I can only find it at MUTR . The price is nice, but the shipping fee to Norway is to much. Add 50% taxes and fees, and the amount gets ridiculous...

Does anybody know anywhere else I can buy it? Or are there any LMR-people who live in UK willing to buy it and mail it to Norway as a "Gift" (for a fair compensation of course)?

G'day Ant, that sounds good, The best I've seen here in Australia was the same as Jaycar, about $12 per 100g. In fact that is the only quantity I've seen it sold in. Barely enough for a small demo piece.

Hey, Ant,

i was poking around jaycar today (needed more supplies), and i stumbled upon polymorph there.

its quite expensive compared to your guess-timates (au$11.95/100g) but as a sample amount, it could be worth while

what area are you in? i'd be quite interested if you wind up importing some quantites for local LMR sales

Can you tell me more? Do you make extrusions?

Hi Boa

No extrusions, we are more into food packaging materials and the like. But if the polymorph can make money then I'll be looking at it.

Ach, piss. I'm going to have to find a new source!!

BOA, could you please tell me what search words to use on eBay? "Polymorph" will get you loads of Magic playing cards...

The kids are going to bed in 7 hours. that's a long time to wait.

Have tea kettle, gluesticks and molds lined up. I even bought a new load of glue sticks the other day, so I have plenty to experiment with!

Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait. The wife will kill me if I dump kids in front of DVD player and lock myself into the workshop, but it's sooooo tempting!

I use it all the time. Get it off eBay. Shipping is cheaper. I nearly always heat it over 65. I use boiling water to soften it!! If you have any contacts in a hospital, see if they can get you some. They use it for making handgrips for arthritic folk and stuff like that.

Pictures of what you have made!

You knew all along, why did you not tell us?
