CNC lead screws

Im looking to find some cheap lead screws ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leadscrew) online . I was wondering if any one could point me in the right direction to find some cheap lead screws. I would guess that the CNC guys would know where to find them. If any one could give me a suggestion on which lead to use, i would appreciate it. I think i want a lead of about .500" per revelation. This is for my chess robot. I do not want it to be too slow.

yeah i have been to home depot and got a rod but it is just too slow. Maybe i will go back and check again or maybe try Lowes hard ware store.

How truly accurate does it need to be? A nylon/delrin nut on a piece of 1/4-20 all-thread from home depot could be really cheap. 1/4-20 gives you .250" travel per revolution IIRC, so it may be too slow for your preference

Looks like mcmaster.com has 1/2"/revolution acme rod only in "precision" and "ultra-smooth", starting at about $25 for 3 feet. Appears to be a 4 lead screw. They have a parametric filter thing so you can poke about and get an idea of just what kind of sizing/leads/finish you're after there and then ask for it elsewhere for better prices.
