# Test yourself: Arty or Techie

## Take this test to find out what you are :)

Point = 0

1) Your robot has to navigate in a park. Do you design it to..

A) Orientate to see how far, what is ahead, somehow generate a map over the area, keep track over obstackles and good paths, drive to next point and so on

B) Focus on where you are going to, constantly avoid obstacles, but only if they are in your way

point = point +1
end if

2) The fun about building robots are ..

A) That you can have an idea to a creature and see it come alive

B) That you have a reason to try math and programming techniques in real life

point = point +1
end if

3) If there is a cable that has 3.7V coming out from your circuit, and you thought it should have been 5V, would you rather / typically..

A) Find out why it is 3.7V

B) Say ”that was strange”, and somehow cope with that for now

point = point +1
end if

4) You have to make a robot arm that is going to take up all your socks from your drawer. Would your first thought be..

A) Find out a way to know how many socks are in the drawer, so that you know when you have picked all and is able to structure the picking.

B) Find out a way to see when the drawer is empty, and pick socks until it is empty.

point = point +1
end if

5) If you should chose to be an expert in one of the 2 below, just somehow get all knowledge inserted into your brain, what would you chose:

A) Get to know 100% Picaxe Basic, Basic Stamp Basic and Arduino C – because then you could just build with ease, almost without thinking, all commands would be at your hands; If you can think on it, you can just make it..

B) 100% assambly, down to 0’s and 1’s of the chips the above based on, because then you would be able to understand it all 100%, and override the commands and optimize and write your own, which would be cool!

point = point +1
end if

6) Building robots often happens alone. If you where together on a camp with 1.000’s of other builders, would you rather..

A) Participate in a group that would design something bigger, using multiple technologies.

B) Participate in a competition where you where able to enter a robot that you had made yourself.

point = point +1
end if

7) After making a robot, would it make you more happy if..

A) Other robot builders where really impressed?

B) People who knows nothing about it think it is cool or fun?

point = point +1
end if

Result:

0-2 points =  Arty!!

3-4 points = All around!

5-7 points = Techie!!

Face it.
4 points for me. Midline just the way I like it.

Q1 - In my dreams A. In reality B.

Q2 - A + B. It's about how simply can something be achieved, not how much math is required.

Q3 - Is 3.7V wrong? How do I know it is 3.7V

Q4 - The challenge is to determine when all of the socks have been removed from the drawer. If the drawer contains socks and other stuff then only A will work. If it contains only socks then A is solving the wrong problem and B is the answer. I can't answer this question as there's insufficient data.

Q5 - I'm 100% sure I could find a better use for my time

Q6 - A would be good with the right people and tools, but it's unlikely in my experience. B could be rather unfullfilling. I'd rather find a good forum like LMR </suck>

Q7 - Definitely A and B, but A first.

So I'm an Arty Chartered Engineer who builds Warhammer kits and writes computer programms and does extreme DIY, and other "manly" stuff. Stupid quiz - knows nothing - huh

Mike

Buffer overflow = Techie over here.

1: B, 2: B, 3: A, 4: B, 5: B, 6: A, 7: A
Gives me 5 points. So techie.
Not really surprised, for me it is functionality over design.
Might change when I get all the programming and understanding of the workings down.

1) b

2)a

3)a

4)b

5)b

6)a

7)a

So my score is 4 so im in the all around group.

But I agree with oddbot that in the question about knowledge I like both of the options too.

Only got a  1 on #7, the rest were 0. Good test, Fritz!

RETURN (3 points);

So I am an All around

That is what I expected since I know myself quite a bit ;-)

Got 3 points too.

1) - Design it to converse with the other robots and animals in the park

- Make the best kinematic model for the robot to swing between trees

2) - Make a cute creature that uses the stuff that i formulate and program!

3) - Turn OFF the power, then find out why it's 3.7V! +1

4) - First thought would be… why does a robot ARM need socks???

5) - Neither! Learning is the fun part, get to have new discoveries :)

6) - Group, easier to delegate. +1

7) - BOOOOTTTHH! The robots have to be cute enough, but have to have good design on the insides too- it has to be complex too!

Hahaha most of my answers didn't even fit the choices! In general though more techy than artsy. Nothing beats sitting down and trying to solve a problem by writing some code (or modelling a robot, desigining a board). Making the tech cute is fun too :3

Fun quiz! Interesting to see everyone's responses...
