Hello everyone. This is my second version of the "Start Here Robot II" and I would like to thank Frits for introducing newbies like me in the fantastic world of robotics and for using most of his code which I added a few more features.

At first I had only one batteries supply and it wasn't strong enough to power the motors and I had also servo jitering.

A second power batteries supply(V2) was added and noise caps on the motors also. Then the next thing I did was to change the position of  the twin gearbox and see what happen with the motors far from the picaxe.

I updated this robot by adding a green led when it goes forward and a red led for reverse. Also added a piezo that makes sound when the robot is turn on and when it goes backward or when too close from an objet (danger mode).

I've tried different gear ratio to see if it works better.

I will make a better wiring routing so it will look clean, but since this is only a prototype and may have to use the parts on other projects, than it's ok.  I have to study basic programming so I could add sound,a Sharp sensor to detect edges and stairs, and other outputs. Any ideas from LMR members would be appreciated. It's aways great watching others projects.

...and no update? How is it going? Any new projects?

This one looks pretty clean compared with mine ;-)

Will try to remember to check if there are new comments comming in ;-)

Hi Lumi, Thanks for visiting my project. Sorry if I didn't answer sooner...the reason is I forgot to check if anyone added a new comment.Better later than nothing :-) I'm also very busy reading others projects, which are very interesting and I'm also learning from you guys.

Thanks for your kind comment. I updated this robot by adding a green led forward and a red led reverse. Also added a piezo that make sound when the robot reverse or when too close from an objet that makes it go reverse. I also added a Sharp IR sensor for edges detecting when it's on a table or near a stair, but I disconnected it because the robot was acting weird with it. I didn't update my project yet because I figured that is was minor add-ons...but I will.

I'm also busy trying to learn C arduino language and trying to compare both boards and their features.I already have the Arduino Duemilanove,so I'm learning right now. Will keep up :-)

Where did you get the tracks?

Korel's picture

Hi there!  I got them from RobotShop.com . But I'm sure you can get these from many web electronic shops. These are Tamiya.

Thanks for your visit and good luck :)

I had to visit your project :) Very nice robot ! I think I will look into tracks for my next robot as well !

I'll look forward to see your robot's evolution :)

Hello my friend, thanks for visiting my page. Tracks are nice and easier to control,no front wheels to take care of. Just got in with piezo and see what will do now. :)

how did you have the double motor gearbox on the base and which tamiya base did you use

and how did you wire the sr05 sensor to the picaxe and what code did you use i am doing this for my school science fair please answer my question thank you

Hi,  Well it was a little tricky to install the double motor gearbox on the Tamiya item # 70108 since the original gearbox was a single motor and smaller too,but with a bit of stretch ;-) it did fit on it. But you can't put the screews straight on it.

The srf05 was wired according to frits node

http://letsmakerobots.com/node/66    And the codes are from  frist "start here robot II"

http://letsmakerobots.com/node/254 with a bit of ajustment according to your hardware and wiring.

Hope it will help you. Good luck.

Nice work. Also, very good video and photos too!
