Vendor's Description:

Rover 5 is a unique and powerful  tracked chassis designed by OddBot and produced by DAGU.

Motor rated voltage: 7.2V
Motor stall current: 2.5A
Output shaft stall torque: 10Kg/cm
Gearbox ratio: 86.8:1
Speed: 1Km/hr
Encoder type: Quadrature
Encoder resolution: 1000 state changes per 3 wheel rotations

Tips on using the encoders with sample code can be found here: http://letsmakerobots.com/node/24031

Unlike conventional tracked chassis's you can adjust the clearance. Strechy rubber treads maintain tension as the clearance is changed.

The standard chassis comes with two motors and gearboxes. Each gearbox has an optical quadrature encoder with a resolution of 1000 state changes per 3 revolutions of the output shaft (333.33 pulses per revolution).

The chassis can be upgraded to 4 motors and gearboxes with encoders making it ideal for mecanum wheels such as those produced by FINGERTECH.

The chassis is compatible with Pololu's expansion plates for the RP5 chassis. These plates are ideal for mounting hardware on the chassis.

The gearbox angle can be changed in 5 degree increments and adaptors are available allowing standard RC car wheels to be fitted.

Currently we have a PCB designed to allow Arduino development boards (not included) Diecimila, Duemilanove, Nano and Mega to mount easily on the chassis. This PCB includes power supply, motor drivers with current sensing, IR sensors on each corner, 2 small breadboards, a pan/tilt kit with our IR compound eye and a large prototype area under the breadboards where custom circuitry can be fitted.

The photo below and video show the robot using an Arduino Mega which is not part of the kit.

See the attachments for basic dimensions and autonomous sample code.

I realise this is an old post but thank-you for sharing the UK distributer's web address. I've sent them an email about some replacement parts (broken wheel hubs) for a Rover 5 I bought second hand.

If you cannot get the parts from them then you can buy them directly from Claudia. There is a new wheel for the Rover 5 (now standard on new chassis's) that keeps the treads on better.

Ok, its avaliable from Sparkfun now. Se link below.

And I just recived a email from the Swedish distributor Lawicel (http://www.lawicel-shop.se/shop/) that it will be avaliable for orders soon :)

Cant wait to get my hands on it!

This thing looks great.  I received it last night. Took me a few minutes to figure out how to adjust the height (it came with one motor in a different position than the others).  There were no docs of any kind in the box.  One problem - mine has no encoders.  The specs on the product mentions encoders, but the box was marked "ROV5-12 motorsNo Encoders"  Apparently there are 3 BOMs: ROV5-12: 2 motor no encoders, ROV5-22: 2 motors with encoders, ROV5-32: 4 motors with encoders.  I have written to the supplier to ask about getting the encoders shipped (since they were specified in what I ordered), but no response yet.

But, the thing looks good.  It is bigger than I expected.  I will be working on it over the holidays.

How did you adjust the height? Would you like to share the information please?

I got mine a few days ago and its very impressive, this will be my first robot on LMR soon, I just have to figure out some basics first.

What is the gear ratio of the motors

The gear ratio is in the specifications at the top. To be honest I think you will find the stall torque to be more useful.

Very cool looking chassis. I especially like the clean white colour and I can see some enterprising person adding their own height adjusting mechanism.

I`m curious as to whether the gearboxes can be relied on not to strip teeth when using the same tyres as the Wild Thumper.

Amazing design! Can't wait to get my hands on one. I hope it comes in black!

For now our standard stock will be white only. Distributors may choose to get it molded in other colours.
