Picaxe 08M Rc Car
Hi guys,
For a while now I have wanted to buy a cheap toy car and make it RC. I was at the cheap shop the other day and found a few $2 toy cars. The cars were super light and did not have much inside of them which made them perfect for the job.
I decided to use the picaxe 08M chip as the brain for this project as I havent really ever used anything other than the standard Start Here Robot board and I wanted to see how powerful this little guy was! My choice of control was IR with a standard Universal IR remote control aslo from the cheap shop! Inside the car is 1 Picaxe 08M 1 Rear modified micro servo 1 Front standard micro servo 1 piezo speaker 2 5mm Green Leds I had to mount the battery pack to the roof of the car but it seems to fit rather nicely on the roof racks! I then taped on the IR receiver to the top of the battery pack.
Im still rather new in the world of robotics but I got the little guy going the way I wanted!
Thanks guys!

Hey nice job. I just tore
Hey nice job. I just tore apart cheap RC Truck and found out that the steering was done via cheap DC motor. Can you show how did you implement the servo steering because I kinda stuck on the steering.

Have You Tried...
I have a cheapo RC car that i want to eventually hack. I wired up an AA to the steering motor and found that when i left the contacts open the wheels centered with a spring and then would turn dependant on which way round i put the battery.
1 AA wasnt even nearly enough power so it did barely turn when i took the wheels off (very heavy ones though) but it should be enough to establish if that control method would work

Very nice toy modifications
Very nice toy modifications you did. May I ask how did you integrate the IR control? And a little more on the wiring please :-)

I'm a fan of the Picaxe 08,
I'm a fan of the Picaxe 08, and I have a few similar little cars. I modified one to add a a motor, batteries and a power switch, but no brains. Maybe someday... (That pile keeps getting higher.)
You did a nice job with the build and integrating IR control. Would you post your code?
