Let's Make Robots!

Where do you spend your robotics dollar (or Yen, Euro, Yuan, Pound, Franc...)

You may have noticed that Frits has negotiated some sweet discounts for LMR with a couple of robotics shops. Check the bottom of the main page.

Using an LMR discount code, ALABTU, you can get 5% off and an additional 5% is donated to LMR to pay for costs of running the site.

My question is, why just a couple of shops? Where do you spend your money? Let's get a list going of the shops where we spend the most, and see if we can negotiate some deals.

Below are a couple of places I often buy from. Post your favorite shops and we'll get a list going. I know we already have a list of shops, but I want to see an up to date list of where we spend money now.

Taobao (FlamingoEDA, DFRobot, some others)

DAGU (Thanks OddBot for the contact)

Embedream.com

PROS:

  • All paid in Chinese Yuan
  • Shipping time < 4 days

CONS:

  • language barrier...Taobao is just in Chinese, embedream.com too

Pololu

Sparkfun

Pololu is where I spend the most and I think they have good prices on a lot of stuff.

On the other hand I don't end up spending much at places like lynxmotion because I think they tend to sell more expensive, higher end products.  That being said it might encourage people to do more business with them than usual if LMR has a discount for them.

ebay

Robotshop, definitely. There is where I spend (not my dollars or Yens or Euros or Yuans or Pounds or Francs) but my argentine pesos.

My dear JAX, if you look for the term DEVALUED in any serious encyclopedia (like the Hitchhiker´s Guide to the Galaxy), you´ll see a picture or the Argentine Peso and not the US Dollar. So, DON´T PANIC!

Andrés

Good initiative, Andrew.. And everyone else; Try and keep this not an impressive list of all the shops you know - that is not very useful for this ;)

Let us know the single most used shop. Perhaps 2 or 3. The ones where you acatually put a LOT of money, the place where we would stand strong in negotiating, the ones where they want us to come back, the ones where you would actaully feel a 5% discount as a benefit :)

Let's not forget about HobbyKing.com (China) - source for RC parts, LiPo batteries and cheap servos...

Here is a list I keep of good places to find parts;
