I'm trying to drive two motors using the picaxe 18 high power board and an l293d chip. So far I've only tested one motor, and it runs the motor but the chip is getting quite hot (I haven't left it long enough to see how hot, but it was getting too hot to touch)! I thought it would probably be a current issue so I put an ammeter in and found that the motor is drawing around 1A, sometimes a bit below - and this is without the motor being under any load.
Assuming this is a current issue, is it possible to use any other chips with the picaxe board? Maybe the SN754410e, which is meant to be pin compatible and have a slightly higher current rating?
However, what if it isn't a current issue - I found this robot which (I think) is using the same ex-rc tank as I am and he is using an l293d h-bridge seemingly without any issues.
