# How do you use a L293D Motor Controller with an Arduino MEGA?

I have recently received my order from ebay. A L293D Motor Controller for my first robot. I read the datasheet and other guides but i can't figure out how to use it, please help! I didnt order 2 so i only have 1, if it fries, i cant get another one or i have to make one. :(

It's is a pitty no-one bothers to read the tutorials that myself and others write specifically to answer questions like this. You will see "Tips" at the top of the page.

Currently our search engine is not 100% but you can then use Google to search LMR. I typed "L293D tutorial" and here was the 1st result listed.

I did not understand it is a vague statement. Please be more specific. Let us know what is puzzling you. I think you need some basic knowledge about electronics and logic. Take some time to go through a tutoarial, step by step, write down what you don't understand and ask here so we can offer our help.

You might try something like this:

As you see, pins 4, 5, 12 & 13 are all tied to ground (the minus side of the battery)

and 1, 9 & 16 are the +5 volt side of the logic battery.  If you are using a different battery (may need a higher voltage) for the motors, that hooks to pin 8, but if you are powering the motors from the 5 volts also, then hook pin 8 to pins 1, 9 and 16.
