Thanks for the info.  and thanks to Frits for the start your first robot!

The robot stops after 4 ft even when nothing is in front of it, also when it stops in front of an object, it (robot not servo) will ossolate back and forth 3 time in just one direction( rigth 90 back 90 right 90 back 90 deg.

It is fun to watch.  Their is something magical about the little guy.

I figured out the problem.  I balanced the robot evenly with coins on the front.  This aloued it to tip back alittle and forward alittle.  As the robot was moving acrossed the rug, every time it tipped forward it stoped because the analog distance sensor would read the rug as a oject in front of it and stop.  I took off one coin and the robot stopped tiping forward and it run just as it should.  Thanks for the help.  I am teaching middle school boys this project and they love it.  I we post when we made the next generation up form this.

No damage would occur. Many people have reversed the chips, put them in the right sockets, and thought they broke something too. Usually it's discovered a solder joint or two are bad after poking around the board. Can you describe the bot's behavior with more detail?
