Maxbotix LV-MaxSonar-EZ1 Sonar Range Finder

Vendor's Description:

This compact sonar range finder by Maxbotix detects objects from 0 – 254 inches (6.45 meters) with 1-inch resolution for distances greater than 6 inches. Unlike other sonar range finders, the LV-MaxSonar-EZ1 has virtually no dead zone: it can detect even small objects up to and touching the front sensor face!

I just bought one of EZ0's, for my "heli-bot". I will be able to vouch for or against it's robustness after I have installed it, but it looks awesome.
These things are great I am using them on my robot butler project http://letsmakerobots.com/node/1904 "Note I have not posted video or pics of this because I don't know how to change the position of the embedded video". The sensors work really great and and they return their value in a simple easy to use analog form which is great for the phidget sensor board I am using.

This thing is tiny. The board is only 19.9mm x 22.1mm. The whole thing from front to back is just 16.5mm.

Better still is that it has analog, pulsewidth and serial outputs and will work from 2.5V - 5V.

A bit expensive but when size and compatability count...

These are really great sonar sensors. I've used their first released devices which are similar to this one, and have some LV-EZ0s to try out soon. I've only used the analog and PWM outs though.
