A colleague gave me this linksys WRT54. The dreamed version with the lotta-RAM and lotta-flash. For free.

Well, almost for free. The same day I received an e-mail (coincidence Kees? I think not!) begging for 2nd hand hardware for a project building a wireless internet connection in a children's shelter in Rwanda. So I compromised and donated Euro's instead. The same amount I would've paid on e-bay.

Without the hassle of shipping! Can you say router-bot?!

I just found 4 Linksys thingeys!

So what you say, apart from RTFM? Provide power, how do I write to them? Have no knowledge of networking protocols!

If its WRT54G routers you found, there are numerous tutorials where you can simply slap on a servo controller, H-Bridge, or MCU, wireless webcam, and 12v Batts. Here is an excellent tutorial:

You also need a fairly decent amount of C# or VB for the software on the PC and C for the MCU if you use a PIC or AVR based programmer

Oh thanks.

Mine are all in the wap11-series, and aparently that's no good.

Sham, because it has serial on the inside, Im pretty sure it could be powered on, and then someway the serial could be used to talk to say a Picaxe.

Oh what, back to the trash with these :)

This will be interesting, connecting a robot to the internet or just to a PC / laptop like this is beyond my abilities and like a creek full of crocs seemed to be more trouble than it was worth.

Enlighten me Rik, show me how to defang the beast! Umm.. you are going to do a tip/walkthrough on this?

Can't wait to see what you're going to do with it.

Tonight I'm going to put my shoe down by the fireplace and hope for Sinterklaas to bring nice 8ik-style tips and walkthroughs featuring WRT54 ;D
