Hello I just wanted to know which language I could (e.g html, python) use to get info from a website and communicate with arduino
for example I want to get info on where a chess piece moves from a chess engine website and send that to arduino.
so how could I use it for my needs. I also saw this engine that works on terminal so i give the notation and it prints the other sides notation who could I make it communicate with arduino.
No haha I know what processing is I just wanted to know how I could communicate with a website or server using processing. And Im not using a ethernet shield so its arduino to computer to internet.
But I think I get what you are saying so HTML is just a thing to hold the actual code for the chess engine which is written in java or PHP correct me if I am wrong and what is VBscript.
Yeah, HTML is just the way to display the information on the screen for the most part - changes in HTML5 go beyond that I guess.
Most web sites are generating the HTML via some othe language such as PHP, ASP, .Net, etc.
VBScript is built into windows machines and is pretty easy to use IMHO but I have coded Active Server Pages, now "classic" for many years. It's Visual Basic Script and I still use it for home automation items, scripting at work to build/merge data, get web info, speak weather stats, etc. I use it to move web cams via a serial servo controller linked to my web server so lots can be done.
May be a 'dying language' but it will outlive me I'm sure - not saying that will be a long time but...
what do you mean.
Chris is talking about the PC language Processing at Processing.org. It can provide a link between your PC, the Arduino, and the world. It's pretty capable, but can be a bit complicated to get setup. It's very similar to the Arduinio IDE environment so the best bet.
I was going to ask how you are linking these together anyhow. From Arduino to PC to Internet or directly from the Arduino to the Internet via an Ethernet or wireless shield. Makes a big different in complexity. It will be complex to some degree no matter what however.
There are other options as well from using windows VBScript to get data from the web and push/pull from the Arduino to other scripting languages to higher level languages like C++ or VB.Net, etc.
Really boils down to what language are you most comfortable with. I would say HTML isn't going to get you too far unless you are adding a scripting language like VBScript, Java, PHP or something inside of that and then you have to drive that through some local web services.
Would be quite a little challenging project but could be done I guess.
Likely I just muddied up the water but hopefully some ideas...
Processing is what you are looking for.
