Let's Make Robots!

James and Ben

James and Ben are two robots that I have made to help teach the students I teach at high school about robotics. James is an obstacle avoider and Ben is a light follower. I have posted these two bots together to avoid spam and because they are both for the same purpose.

The first video is of James navigating around. His method is simple and is the same method used for just about all obstacle avoiders, if there is nothing in front move forward else look right and left and work out which way is better to go. If you would like to have a go at making James I have also made an Instructable which can be found here: http://www.instructables.com/id/James-Your-first-Arduino-Robot/

Edit: I thought Ben might get a little jealous so I made an instructable for him too http://www.instructables.com/id/Ben-A-Light-Following-Breadboard-Arduino-Robot/

The idea is that I pull him apart and then give the pieces to the kids, I will then make special powerpoint assembly instructions that they can follow to rebuild and program him.

The second video is of the construction and use of Ben. I videoed the construction process to show to people that making robots isn't difficult and it can be a fun thing to do on a weekend with your kids. His body is same the same form factor as a breadboard, I did this so that the kids can put anything they want on him, LED's buzzers etc. and still have plenty of room.

There isn't much else I can add really that isn't already covered in the videos or the instructable, so thanks for reading.

I guess I can give you some pictures!
