Let's Make Robots!

What did you get for Christmas

I figure sooner or later someone will ask this anyway. So lets show everyone the cool robot stuff we got for Xmas :)

PIC18F4550_Development_board.jpg

I got a PIC18F4550 development board. This has a 20Mhz crystal but via internal PLL can run at up to 48Mhz. It can be reprogrammed via USB and has 32Kbyte program memory and 2Kbyte ram. The bread board in the middle can be removed to reveal plated through holes/pads (you can see some either side of the breadboard). I might solder in some "H" bridges later. On the right it has some LEDs, pots, speaker and switches that can be used with the breadborad for prototyping. The post are spaced to take 2 mini boards such as RTC, Eeprom etc.

Now I just have to work out how to program it as the manual only covers the hardware. It does come with sample software but a lot of it is VB6 or C.

Got Wall-E DVD, Iron Man DVD (I want Tony Starks basement stuff), and a Tri-bot. One of those things you like to try out for a while, then see how to take it apart and reconfigure it.

And some cash to perhaps apply to some real robot stuff maybe.

I've seen a couple of robots with those wheels, I want some!
In fact not one set but two.  I think my family is saying I'm going blind and I have the shakes...
Maybe you can fit some servos to one. They do look a bit like a robot. Put a led display behind the magnifying glass so it projects onto a wall or something.
I have one and I love it. I might stock up on perf boards.

The only robot related things so far (still have 3 Christmasses, Christmasi, Christmassissis?!?!) 3 Christmas events to go.

Wall-e on DVD

$30 Radioshack gift card (for graduation but still got it today)

Hey, I got Wall-E too :P

And some really strong magnets!

Any idea what you'll get at radio shack?
I havent looked yet. I usually only use them for odds and ends when I'm stuck and need it now. I may look at relays or some sensors they have. I'll look when I get back to work Monday and have free time ;)
Get perf boards. I use them for all my projects and they are actually pretty good. Only problem is once in a while the traces pop up when you are desoldering.
