Picaxe not recognized by my computer?

MaltiK's picture
I ran the driver on the CD, I didnt check the website though, is there a new driver on it? If so could someone link to it, and how do I know if the picaxe controller works if I dont plug it into my computer?

I've installed the Editor, is that not enough?

I just want to make sure that you installed the drivers, have the stereo plug in the project board connected, have power going to the project board (5volts is best), and have the com port set correctly. I only use a USB connection so if the seriel has different steps I may not be able to help much.

I'm running Vista as well, and I just hooked up my Picaxe023 (8 pin) with a serial cable and its not being recognized! 9v will fry it according to the datasheet. I need a hand. :)

Btw I am running VISTA

Ah I should've guessed!  Yes Vista can be a pain. According to rev-ed, the drivers were tested with Vista as well, you should use the same driver as the XP driver.  Re-install the latest from the website and see if it works.

Also, is the port recognized by Vista?  Do you see the COM port in the device manager?  Lets try to solve this one step at a time

Here's what you should do:

Plug in the usb cable into the usb port

Windows will detect this and popup a message asking for a driver

Always use the drivers from the website, not the CD. That way you'll get the latest

Once the driver is installed, connect the battery to the picaxe and then the usb

Do the hello world blinky thingy to test and click run, the code should get downloaded to the chip and the led should start flashing

If this doesn't work, be more specific and I'll walk you through the steps. Do mention what Windows you are using (XP, Vista, etc).

Please be more specific; How far did you get, where are you stuck? (you do not need a driver, you see)
