Stupid YDM!
2008-06-06 21:34
- I really do not want to talk / write etc more about YDM!
However: fark.com has re-discovered it, and people are commenting. The news here is "the audience" on fark.com - not so bright, all of them. And not so positive either.
I get comments like "Thrash that stupid machine and start over again - it takes over a minute for it to detect something to bang on, and only by the help of your hand", and "Would be a nice thing, IF ONLY IT WAS ABLE TO FIND THINGS TO PLAY ON ITSELF" etc.
That is so strange to me; The code is 3 parts:
A) Avoid obstacles
B) Snake into place
C) Play
The A) -part can go on for ever if I wanted it to. Of course, I made the thing :D I tried to make it go in A) mode for an apropriate time, that also varies etc - to make it "fun and have personality".
If I wanted to, I could just skip the A)-parts, and go for B) in the main routine.
Why am I telling you guys here on LMR this? Well to get it off my shoulders :D You know it, of course, but aparently the clever people at fark.com cannot figure that out - and they think I am crap (and they have an urge to tell me) because my crap robot is so slow to find something to play on, and needs help etc etc.
For gods sake, you ignorants; It is all part of the illusion I have made; That it should "be hard" for the robot to find something. It could just drive until it bumps into something, and start playing!!
Some of them are nice too, and write that it is cute.. but I am getting lots of the other stuff, and "my homo-sapien-robot is better than that, it can detect colors" etc. Well F**k you! And your 3-color-robot!
:D
Thanks for listening!
(And this was the last I ever wrote about YDM, I promise!)

Why Stress?
A Positive Note.
Why should you care what anyone else has to say. I'm sure you didn't build the YDM to impress the world. If you like the finished product, then it was a job well done.
Jason
Exactly.
That's what you get for
Yeah really, don't sweat
Yeah really, don't sweat it...
Its easy to be a critic ... just sit on your ass and make nasty comments.
The ones you should be concerned about, is your competition ....
Like me :)
I know you've spent a long

i think that YDM was so
I love your YDM!
A person can be clever but people are stupid
War, famine and poverty tell us all we need to know about the state of humanity... but giving the YDM grief!? That's a step too far.
I for one welcome our new robot overlords, and these fools will be first against the wall when the cap laucher is finished. Perhaps they will come to realise their folly in their final moments, as the YDM solonmly tolls their death knell.
That's it. I CAN'T TAKE
LOL!
WOW Guys!I guess I WAS
WOW Guys!
I guess I WAS fishing for some shoulder-padding, but an whole army :D Thank you all. I have ben away for a couple of days - so I did not see all this tick in, would have stopped you, I am OK, thank you, thank you :)
I was going to make a profile and flame them back, but hey - I got fella geeks :D
Thanks again :)
The marvel of WDM is the
I've noticed...
...that the more you seem to accomplish and do, the more people find to tear apart. I've noticed that sites like Fark tend to be set up and run by people who are actually pretty much as smart and creative as you and I, but their readership really aren't.
I get way more criticism about my robots than I do other projects I've worked on. I don't know how much of this is people tearing things down because they feel threatened by somebody who is actually doing something with their time/life, or how much is people feeling threatened by robots. I suspect it's a mixture of both.
Anyway, the YDM is way, way cool and very inspiring. Makes me want to go off and build and entire marching band.
Keep up the good work and don't let them get you down.
