Success! First Test Board Reflowed

15 May 2011 - Update

I have successfully reflow soldered a test PCB.  I got the PID routine tuned a bit and was itching to test out the reflow controller.  So, I applied some solder paster to a old relay controller board I developed and successfully soldered some components to the board.

Below are some pictures of solder paste and components applied to the PCB.

Chess Update

5.11.11 This update is running Grog's MRL program

5.14.11 The second video shows that I have changed the chess robot so it no longer goes back to a8 (the starting position) after every move. The code now calculates how to perform the next move from the location the chess robot's gantry crane ends at. I have also programmed in the ability for the robot to perform a castling move that the chess engine often does (this is not seen in the video)

Towards a auto-aiming servo controled directional wifi antenna

I'm planning a project to get an auto-aiming directional wifi antenna working to provide a long-distance repeater for a boat at anchor connecting to access points we don't control.I think this is a robot, but a simple one.  I think it's a robot because it senses its environment and responds to it.  Sadly it won't be very pretty but it might be useful.  It will definitely be fun ;)

A ridiculously powerful Arduino form factor board

Clicking around, I found this PIC32-based board.  It's the same form factor as an Arduino Mega board, but it's powered by a PIC32 running at 80MHz.  This is an 80MHz MIPS CPU too (a RISC CPU you'll see all over the place, and is somewhat similar to ARM) that has integrated USB and Ethernet support.  Not to mention 512k of flash and 128k of SRAM.  That's a lot of horsepower for a little board.  And it's only $50, that's not bad at all.

Botboarduino drivers

Ok guys it's been a while since I've been on I'm glad everything is picking back up.

I recently had to wipe my computer after getting a virus. Which means I lost all my drivers and code and etc. I managed to get arduino up and running but my botboarduino needs drivers to work. I'm kinda freaked out about catching another virus and I can't seem to find the correct drivers for ft232 uart. I tried one place but it keeps asking me for a password to open it. And when I point the device manager it refuses to see the zip file.
