First Robot Plan

I'm about to start my first robot project so i thought i would document my progress, I don't imagine anyone else will be interested so i'm mainly doing this so i have a record.Controller PCB

For a project at Uni I have made a Wireless controller and a motor driver PCBs. They both include a built in arduino and communicate via XBees. I get to keep the PCBs from the project and have bought the ATmega328 chips, XBees and a chassis as these are the parts we had to return.

I plan to use this as a base for my robot and add more features as and when i can.

This is my first robot. I was inspired to start creating after seeing the Yellow Drum Machine by Frits, and I originally was building a drum robot. After … Read more

First Robot Project Choice?

jpjrunesjpj's picture

Hey guys,

I've been reading up on robots and am very anxious to begin my first project, but I need advice.  You see, the "start here" robot does look pretty cool to me, but I've found that the "Yellow Drum Machine" (http://letsmakerobots.com/node/112) is far more appealing.  So my question is this: Would it be unwise to build the "Yellow Drum Machine" as my first robot?

A forced change of plans

A couple of months ago I started talking here about building a hexapod. I had it all planned out, made drawings, chose materials, hardware, electronics, made myself a shopping list and was good to go.

The rookie robot builder wannabe has drawings and a parts list!

Second blog on my first build, with some final things.
Well, final, is a drawing ever final until you've actually cut the parts and fixed them together?

Guess not, but we'll see about that later.

The first brainwaves of a rookie robot builder wannabee

So, let me start by saying that I really like LMR already.
For a couple of months now I've been wanting to start playing with robotics, micro controllers and pick up electronics again.
I did some electronics back in school and as a hobby but I didn't have time.

So, a while back I bought an Arduino Uno to start playing with uC's and electronics, drove my girlfriend mad with talks and showing designs I made, which where all not feasible or would be way too expensive to even think about.

Now you will probably think, stop rambling and start talking robots! And I will!

No response from SRF05!

Simon002's picture

Hello, I am trying to connect a SRF05 to my 28x1 PICAXE starterkit.

Using the "start here" guide and the How to connect SRF05 to Picaxe 28 pin Project board
I am able to make the SRF05 LED flash like the guide says it should, however I am not able to receive any input in debug.

I have connected every wire like in the picture and I am only using the program provided.

Hello all

So, I've been lurking this forum for a while now and finally decided to make my first robot.

I started out reading the "Start here" guide - and it's a really cool guide by the way :)

My first robot, A 4 legged walker, Still a long way to go :D

Roar Nesheim's picture

Hello and greetings from Norway.

Since the winter is creeping upon this very cold land that I live in, and the sun is hiding just about all the day, its time to start some indoor project.

I have always been fascinated by DIY robots and have had many "Brilliant" (horrible stupid) ideas for designing and building them.

But finally i have started a robot project for real. wohoo!

As a child

OK im new so didnt no what topic sorry for that.so the title says most of it as a kid 10-18-ish were you interested in electronics did you make anything?or did you just start robotics as an adult?

(edit) i ask this because i am only a child so i wondere if there was any hope for me :] thanks for the feedback guys.

perhaps il just wait till i can actually buy some basic stuff but il still read up on stuff so hen i do get materials il be ready to start using my hands instead of my eyes

My Very First Robot

Hello,

I am interested in building my first robot, I already red the "Start Here" section and check everything related to that robot and another beginner's ones.

So it begins...

Hi i'm new at the game.

I tried to make my first robot last week and got as far as the testing stage :)

I didn't do enough research and thought a bi-pedal walker was the first thing i should try and make!

Ha ha ha, I saw Honda's Asimo for the first time and thought I can make something that walks in

A: < 1 week with

B: < $50 worth of R & D

Thats the learning curve.
