Homemade Artificial Muscles from Nylon Fishing Line

There was an exciting discovery that hit the news last month -- researchers at the University of Texas learned that appropriately coiled nylon monofilament line could be used to make heat-activated artificial muscles. Here's an article on it: http://io9.com/scientists-just-created-some-of-the-most-powerful-muscl-1526957560  I've had some success duplicating their work as a hobbyist -- in particular, I've gotten one of these muscles to lift a suspended ferrite core about a centimeter, then relax again.

Timed Actuator ( automatic timed Button pusher )

Hello,

I need to build an actuator, arm, robot or something which will press a button for me, I mean on a keyboard, alarm clock, or any other button, hold it pressed for some interval and then let go. I need to be able to configure this interval very precisely, up to 10th of a second. I was thinking of getting an actuator, and interfacing it with some mechanism which will allow me to set the timer very precisely. I am more into computer software than mechanical/electrical engineering, so please bear with me.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Gimson Robotics - UK based electronics & robot-hardware store

Hi I'm Ewan from Gimson Robotics (www.gimsonrobotics.co.uk), a UK based robot & electronics parts store recently relaunched after two years hiatus. We stock a range of motors and actuators for small to medium sized robotics/special effects applications. Please have a look at the site and see what you think.

How to hook a actuator up to a servo.?

Im currently building a remote control snow plow, yes it sounds crazy, but very cool. Right now im trying to figure out a way to lift the plow up and down. I have an actuator from an electric wheelchair. my issue is how do i hook it up to the servo so it can be remote opperated!

Thank you for your help!!

Recommendations for steering

I'm building a yard bot. The initial blog is posted for my Yard Gnome already.

This robot will steer like a car, with one drive motor pushing two rear wheels, and a two-wheeled steering mechanism up front.

I'm looking for recommendation for how to automate steering on this thing.

Is there an affordable servo that is strong enough?

Should I build my own servo?

Large Solenoid Actuator driven Display

Hello, I am new to this site so I hope you won’t mind if I ask a few questions that I am sure are going to sound quite amateurish to most of you.

I am an American living in Berlin working on a collaboration between two art research institutes here.  I have been given the task of putting together a proposal for a dynamic moving display. That will be featured next year as part of a conference on kinesthesia.

Price: $40 USD
Now, here is at last a new range of exciting actuators! This is just one example, check http://www.migamotors.com/Products.html for more. Read more

Linear Servos

hey, anyone know where i can find a linear servo or actuator that is capable of pushing a piano key down :) Thanks!
