Rover 5: how to measure distance with one encoder output

I recently bought a Rover 5, Arduino Uno and 2A Motor Shield and made my first sketches.
I would now like to use the encoders to control the motors and I have a question about that.

I would like to measure distance and am not interested in direction.
That must be possible with one encoder output but how?

Rover 5 2WD with Explorer PCB ... Which Arduino should I use?

Hi all,

Building my first robot here .

I have narrowed down my search in to these

1.Rover 5 2WD

2.Degu Explorer PCB

Not sure which Arduino board to go with , I have hopes of attaching a IR Compound Eye and a spycam later .

Can I do this with Arduino UNO? or should I go for Spider board?

Apart from that what else should I buy to get me going?

Thanks in advance

U7 got fried for some reason :(

I just got my Dagu 4 Channel Motor Controller, already a small part gave some smoke and one motor channel is not working anymore.

All four wheels were turning at the same time before the channel4 got fried.

Connections:

  VCC to Arduino 5V

4 PWM on the motor controller to 4 PWMs on the Arduino uno.

The is the Rover I build. The Rover is able to turn its body and to change the position of so that the underside becomes the upper side. Initially, I use 4 motors … Read more

different versions of dagu controller behave differently?

Hi,

I posted this yesterday in someone else's thread and was advised to start a new one.  My message from yesterday:

This is my first post, so forgive me if I break protocol.  I bought a rover 5 and then bought a dagu 4 channel controller from a british outfit (robosavvy) and was able to create my first robot.  Super cool!

Ugly

Picture_141_0.jpg

Hey there, this is the first robot Ive ever made... and not the sturdiest of machines.... or prettiest.

Just a rover. My first Arduino project was a joystick operated 3DOF arm, this seemed like the next step and, oposed to the arm which I used other peoples code and just stuck the pieces together, this code is mostly mine... as clunky as it is.

I started looking into building robots as a way to better learn coding as Ive only really stared this year for the day job.

W.A.L.T.E.R. is my experimental and learning robot platform and will never be complete.  This is the first robot I built, back in 2006 - W.A.L.T.E.R.. It was named … Read more
