Let's Make Robots!

News About LMR Start Here Robot

For those of you interested in the LMR Start Here Robot, we would like to inform you that it is now also available through RobotShop at approximately $20USD less than it was before.

Building this kit is a great way to start into Robotics and learn the basics so we wanted to make it available for LMR members. The tutorial and videos are easy to follow so you can build your first robot in a few hours.

Do we want a LMR WhatsApp or WeChat group?

A while back I asked Frits what he would think about a WhatsApp or a WeChat group for LMR.

Recent events about WhatsApp may change a lot but I guess that's a reasonable question if we want a 24/7 chat for LMR or not. The SB is ok for the use on a computer and the SB app is doing it's job as well but it's still not an optimal solution.

What I would like to read below is your opinion about that idea. Do we need a group and if yes, how we are going to do that?

LMR in Google

I am replying to the message Frits posted on the start page.

I did a qick check about the google presence and there is no sign of disappearance. I am sure it just had a small hickup due the website changing (owner) and/or registration.

As we all want LMR to be the #1 I am also putting links whereever I see fit. Please do the same but do not spam other forums, just place the link where you think it's appropriate.

LMR Wiki Content

Hello LMRians,

Had an email conversation with Frits, THE LMR Webmaster, and he gave me the scoop on a soon (days not weeks) to be added Wiki to the LMR site. If you aren't familiar with a Wiki, look it up on the mother of all wikis, Wikipedia.org.

The LMR wiki will be the Go-To place for articles on all the various aspects of making robots and possibly articles (not reviews) about the various robot kits on the market.

In anticipation of the new wiki I thought it would be a great idea to:

Toronto Mini Maker Faire

Hi guys, on September 21st and 22nd there will be a Mini Maker Faire in Toronto, Canada.

Is anyone from LMR attending? I would like to meet up and chat. If anyone is interested to set up a LMR booth, we can talk, cause I'm not going to do it alone. On the 22nd is my daughter's birth day, so I will be bussy with her party.

Let me know if you plan to attend!

LMR in Wikipedia

Hi guys,

I figured it was about time LMR had an entry in Wikipedia - after all we are not just a little insignificant group any longer :) It may just be me, but where ever I go and talk to people who are somewhat into robots, they know about us. Or they are us.

And so - as I see it, we should be in Wikipedia, and so I made this draft:

LMR Banner Available for Events

Hey, all! Oddbot had this great banner created for the ShenZhen Mini Maker Faire.

The original banner is 2.8m x 1.8m @ 300dpi giving a resolution of  33,071 x 15,354 pixels. Here is a much smaller one for you to look at. Click on the photo for a bigger image.

Ready for Campus Party

I am ready for the Campus Party.

OddBot was so kind to send me the LMR poster he already had to the Shenzhen Mini Maker Fair.

Sorry for the wrinkles but it's huge and i did not have the space to unfold it completely.

I will bring it to the Campus Party in Berlin in August.

LMR community on skype...

I make another off topic forum to ask you this-

Does anyone know if there is an LMR Community Group on skype?

If yes then please tell me about it.

If no, then I want to start one but want permission to do so. The main action remains here in LMR and on the shout box but we can go a step further and increase our limits. Skype can be a way to know others both face to face or through voice and text.

If there isn't a group on Skype, can you guys post your views here on this topic?

LMR meeting in Shanghai

We did it again. This time our friend OddBot (Russel) visited Shanghai and we got the chance to meet again, even with his limited time in Shanghai.

So, who is "we"? That's MarkusB (Markus), Taweili (David) and me. You can see Russel, Markus and me on the following picture. David as a photographer is behind the cam (sorry about the quality but this is not David's fault but the cheapy Point-and-Shoot camera ;-)

LMR Robotic Online Football (Soccer)

I decided to resuscitate the LMR soccer game using my new µBipedino robots. The game will play as it was originally discussed, just with different players. These new robots can run around for about an hour on a fresh charge (when a Bluetooth module is attached), so the game will consist of 2 halves of 30 minutes each.

LMR on Twitter

So hey guys and girls!
If you didn't know, me (@BotFIN on Twitter) and GeneralGeek (@NoahMoroze) are in the Twitter as LMR. Twitter add's our names to end of the posts (I don't know why). But we are "official" employees of LMR on Twitter now :)

LMR 4 years birthday party

Hello, and congratiolations to all of us :D

LMR 4 years birthday will be officially celebrated in the time from Saturday January 28th to Friday February 3th 2012.

It's almost a tradition that creative souls make some form of artwork to celebrate - and if you should do so this year, please either post it here, or link to it from here :)

Also, make sure to keep an eye on the front page, where announcements and stuff will be posted during the celebration :)

MintyProbe, the Altoid can logic probe

Inspired by Andersen and CTC, I am putting together a Logic Probe Kit consisting of:
MintyProbe, a tiny 3.5"x2.25"x.75" Logic probe with 2x16 LCD Screen able to:
                Detect High, Low, Floating Inputs
                Signal Pulse Length
                Voltage readout (5V and Under)

LMR series of PCB's

I think that LMR should have its own series of circuit boards, with the designs open source for all LMR'ians to use. Heres a couple ideas for PCB's:

An official LMR robotics comp.

Most of you know I've had a lot of interest in my cross the gap challenge.

So I asked Frits about us having a "Official" LMR online competition at the end of this year. He said he is interested, but has too many obligations to be personally involved beyond giving the final approval, and adding stuff to the home page, etc.

If you want to be involved with exploring this concept, we will have to come up with a new game, and write up the rules, and figure out who's judging the video's, etc. I can get prizes donated.

Maintenance: components and unread posts

You know our Components section right? Most of the components in that database are automatically imported from a few vendors who are friendly enough to allow us access to their databases. Each time a new component is added to a vendor's catalog, our server imports it into ours. Changes in details like description and price are also automatically updated.

Hi y'all, just joined LMR, fantastic site, lovin' it already . . .

I am a bit of a beginner to robotics, I mean I can program and all that, and make these things, but I know not how or why they work.

One thing I have been wondering is about capacitors:

When designing a circuit, how does one know where to place capacitors, or why to have them, or how they function in that position?

With this circuit in particular (from here: http://letsmakerobots.com/node/2074), why the caps?

those two in the top-right, why do they both need to be there?

Android LMR app ..?

Google has made it pretty easy to create apps for their Android OS, that I am sure you have heard about, and possibly use.

I am a heavy user, and I'd like to try and make an LMR app, just for the fun of it. Or have yours on my phone?

But what on earth would be fun or possibly even useful?

Perhaps it's  an all together stupid idea, because one can always just use the phones browser, and get "the real thing" there, even log in and all. Several of my posts have been made that way, from my phone.

thanks LMR!!!!

I have been looking at almost all the robots and proyects that LMR has, let me tell you people that i am amazed.....

I began this robotic journey a year ago, the internet was so helpfull in getting knowlege, ideas and fun....

LMR is so big, so powerfull that i started to read almost all the proyects to get ideas, in that ideas i find the knowlege and the pleasure of finally sharing my achivements....
