LMR CAD Team - README

Rudolph_adm's picture

To extend the idea for a place to share CAD files, LMR now has this forum specifically for the purpose. Please keep your posts on-topic.

To attach a CAD library to a post, please wrap your files up in a .zip or .tar.gz archive. Rather than adding potentially dozens of file extensions to the "allowed" list, this will make it less likely to forget some.

This post will be updated with more intelligent information, because I don't have a clue what I'm talking about when it comes to CAD.

LMR Planned Downtime

Rudolph's picture

LetsMakeRobots.com will be off line for a little while tonight for some maintenance and updates.

This downtime is tentatively scheduled for 2009 Oct. 28 at 9:00pm PDT (Oct. 29 at 4:00am GMT if I did my math rght) and is expected to take approximately two hours.

PDT is Pacific Daylight Time, PDT is GMT -7, and 9pm PDT is approximately 10 hours from the time I write this, if any of that helps anybody.

LMR-III Now Online!

Rudolph's picture

As you can see, LMR is back up and now at version 3!

No, your eyes did not deceive you, that was Zanthess' avatar you saw everywhere. This release includes a new attempt at thwarting spammers by adding a small quiz to the user registration form. Since this was Zanthess' idea the avatars where temporary and in her honor.

LMR Downtime - fair warning

LMR will be down for an update tonight at approximately 9pm, PDT (2100 GMT -7). Downtime should be an hour or less.

Norway LMR Beer???

isotope's picture

Hi, everybody!

I know everybody is busy with his (her) own business, but I feel if I do not post it I will feel bad :) I'm i Stavanger, Norway at the moment for training. Enyone wants to meet for a beer in sake of robotics? :)

LMR 2 years old

fritsl's picture

At the time of writing this, LMR is about to celebrate it's 2 years birthday, and already people are bringing presents in the shape of birthday related pictures and stuff.

Please, if you are doing so, link to it from here (if it is a robot, blog entry etc) - (or directly write below if applicable)

Hoorayy :D

LMR-IIa Updates

Rudolph's picture

Just a quick post to let you all know the few features that have been added with the IIa sub-upgrade.

The feeds listed on RSS feeds now work again

blip.tv videos should now embed the correct video

The User Map is now capable of showing only the user specified. In other words, when you click Location: San Bernardino, CA, US in my user page you'll only get me on the map, and it won't take 20 minutes to load!

LMR Planned Downtime

Rudolph's picture

LMR will be down Wednesday 11 Nov. 2009 at 9pm PST (Pacific Standard Time, GMT -8) for some updates. Expected downtime is about half an hour.

Yes, this has been changed already ;) Due to the

Mr. Basic Challenge 2 ( autumn 2009)

challenge ending tonight, I don't want to mess up anybody's contest entry.

LMR keyrings and other merchandise

OddBot's picture

During my time as a member of LMR I have seen the odd discussion about LMR T shirts, caps etc.  Jack would like to help promote LMR and is looking at producing some keychains.

The minimum order is 300 and it cost about $600 USD to have the mold made. We would sell them at cost ($2 USD) or give one out with every order from an LMR member. We are not doing this to make money but to promote LMR as the best robot site on the web.

Below is the design Jack proposes. What do you think? Does LMR need or even want merchandise?

Should we kick out vendors? Please vote!

fritsl's picture

Question: Are we seeing too many vendors on the pages, making challenges and pretending to be friends and stuff?

Write ***Y in comments below to vote Yes to the above question

Write ***N in comments below to vote No to the above question

We ARE planning to see lots of vendors products in a new components section that we are working on. But I am sure that will just be nice for all of us; Cool products nice to browse, and a nice place to showcase what you sell (unlike now where it is a not so nice list)

Ten thousand

This week LMR is hitting the 10000th node. A node is a page as our content management system calls them. Look in the URL bar if you have never noticed these numbers before. Ten Thousand must be some sort of anniversary.

It is finally here! The price includes the 28X1 processor but not a cable since most picaxe users will have a cable already. If you do require a programming cable … Read more

Where are the robots?

LMR seems to be drifting away from the orioginal core LMR values.

Movies / videos are a great help in descibing a robot project, but should not the primary goal.

Idea: Instant messaging for LMR members?

TinHead's picture

Hi all,

Was just thinking while shouting in the Robot Shout Box, why not have an instant messaging server for the LMR members?

I have some experience with the Ejabber instant messaging server, I think it could be integrated with some work with the drupal user database.

So what do you think?

Safari problems - popups

Mintvelt posted in an obscure part of the forums about popup problems in Safari. I would like to hear from others as well. That's why I am posting in this forum. More people will notice this in the Recent posts and Unread posts.

Dual 18F4620 board with supporting 18F2525 for display

Krumlink's picture

Right now I am working on my master-slave-slave board that will suit my needs for a long time. It has a master 4620, that communicates to another 4620 for processor assistance.

4620 MASTER: Spaces for 5 servos, rs232, I2C, sn754410 motor controller, 8 ADC channels, 2x5 header so it is expandable into another board.

4620 SLAVE: Setting switches, proximity IR sensors (8 for complete sensing), speaker, encoders (rear and front for a car drive bot, left and right for 2 wheel operation), 38khz IR led driver, bumper switches and spaces for 6 servos I2C.

DAGU electronics and LMR robots

OddBot's picture

As many of you know, DAGU Electronics is now going to mass produce my Caterpillar Robot and SplatBot MkII. They are looking at LMR and may produce other LMR robots in the future.  Keep this in mind when you post your robots. Show how you made your robot. They will pay well for good designs.

I do not want adds on our site so I will post reviews on their products in the component section as I have done with the Asuro robot. If you see a product you like then contact me.

Are we too many in here, should we start limiting acess?

fritsl's picture

Hi everyone :)

Are we too many in here, should we start limiting acess?

I have had the same thoughts before; at a point I felt like we where so many in here, that it was impossible to follow everything & everyone..

It sure is now.

Last time I did & said nothing, and it turned out to be the right solution; So many cool people dropped in, people I would never have known else. I am thankful I did not limit acess then.

LMR baseball cap

rik's picture

How much would you pay for a baseball cap like this?

cap_lmr.png

Personally I think it's a bit expensive (zazzle).

Any thoughts about the design? What changes/aditions would make it worth the 20 USD?

Besides of course an i-pocket in the rear.

LMR scrapbook

Hey guys,

More and more often our work is showcased on other sites - let's have it collected, links, scrapbook :)

The Write-LMR-Challenge

The rules here are simple:
  • Make a robot that one way or the other writes either "letsmakerobots.com", or "LMR" the way you like it.
  • Shoot it on video, enter it as a robot.
  • Best entries will be promoted / used to promote LMR - Fame, envy, marvel, admiration and respect is the prize!

Your robot can shape the letters in clay, burn it on your sisters dog with a laser, build them out of breadcrumbs.. or draw it with a pencil on a piece of paper.

Development on LMR

fritsl's picture

Hi all,

Just a short update on where this site (LMR) is going, why, when etc :)

We are now kindly hosted by BEE3. However, we cannot get the server access that we would need for more people to really work on the site, have a development version going etc.
