Raspberry Pi Lego car

Hello all,

I'm making my first robot using Raspberry Pi. My robot looks like a car with three wheels. Two of them are in front and have connection to motors, The third one is behind and it's no connection to motors.

I'm planning to use 2 simple motors (for each front wheel one). For now my robot weight 260g, and i have to add two motors and battery and i little of more constuction for holding motors and battery. I'm already found which type of motor should i use:

Motraxx MOTOR X-FLY 400 or Moteaxx MOTOR X-FLY 280.

RaspberryPi - powered talking robot using Cleverbot (Idea)

Considering I can hook up both a mic and a speaker, this should be awesome!

The future of hobby robotics?

Hello dear LMRers! Not long ago I launched a blog at ohmnivore.co.nr . For a start, I wrote about an idea I had in mind for a long time and that has me wondering; why are there so little RaspberryPi-powered robots? I post this to stimulate a discussion about the RPi (I'm aware a lot more people will see it here, not at my blog). I'm too lazy to edit all the links, so the original version with working links is here.

 

A custom Pi shield or an Arduino?

As more and more people get a Pi they are asking how to interface it to their robot. I do not own a Pi but I looked at the GPIO pins available for interfacing. Apart from general digital I/O pins you have I2C, SPI and Serial interfacing available. I assume there is a library or something that allows these pins to be easily access from within the Linux operating system.

So the question becomes do you just use another MCU such as an Arduino to provide the necessary I/O functionality or do you use a custom shield?
