Introducing BoardX: The Open Source Miniature Robotics Motherboard

Hi Everybody!

Long time robot enthusiast here, but just joined up after searching for some robotics tutorials. I'm searching for ideas to create a beginners robotics kit for my open source project, BoardX.

Design of 3D printed enclosure - first printout

Here is a quick update related to this post about 3D printed robot enclosure.

Two videos below illustrate the goal - how it will looks like soon :-). And here is the first step into this direction - my first 3D-printed part of the enclosure shown in the video. Took me about the whole week from receiving the packet with Ultimaker kit till the first reasonable printout came out :-) .

Don't know where to post this or if it's appropriate (I'm sure I'll find out if not) but anyone in the central Florida area interested in getting a robotics group together? Since I've searched and couldn't find an existing group I figured I would start one myself.

Stereoscopic vision help

Hi, I am willing to built a stereoscopic navigation system (which will have 2 paralel webcams to capture images every X second and compare images with each other to find depth)  just for fun and coding challenge(more challenge actually) but i have no idea how to do that, i am searching and reading sources with all kind. however since i have no idea where to start more i read it makes me feel more confused and i cannot find a complete guide to follow.

PICAXE 28x1 Syntax Error

I need help, I'm trying to program a sonar with the PICAXE programing editor and tere's this Syntax error that shouldn't be there.

low portc 0
pulsout b.5,5
pause 200
pulsin portc 0, 1, w1
w1 = w1/29

It only complains with the "pulsin" line, the "low" line doen't create any sort of problems. What's wrong here?

Line robot sensor

Hey guys, i want to build a line following robot and I was scouring ebay for some sensors

 

I found these but I wasn't sure if they would work, as I haven't done this before. They're pretty cheap.

where can i find these vex pieces?

okay, I have been scouring google trying to find the parts for the vex rcr mini walker crab thing, which should be displayed.

all the results I have found have been things like press announcements and demo robots built witgh this stuff, and none of it recent.

I personally want to build that walker, obviously with some extra personal touches added on, but I just cannot find the parts. every place seems to indicate that they were released, so did I just miss a limited run component or something?

My favorite modern Robotica author, DH Wilson PhD in robotics.  He defines robots in a way that excludes bristlebots without sensors so beam fanatics, be ware-this will angry up the blood.  Otherwise, there's some good advice! ;-)

LMR meeting in Shanghai

We did it again. This time our friend OddBot (Russel) visited Shanghai and we got the chance to meet again, even with his limited time in Shanghai.

So, who is "we"? That's MarkusB (Markus), Taweili (David) and me. You can see Russel, Markus and me on the following picture. David as a photographer is behind the cam (sorry about the quality but this is not David's fault but the cheapy Point-and-Shoot camera ;-)

Okay, so here's my project, what i am designing.
It is a robot arm!
Some stats:

- 4 servos, not very big
- PICAXE 14M as brain
- SM-S3317S 2.0kg at 4.8V
- 4 Rechargeable 1.2V batteries
- Polymorph and lightweight woodsticks as materials 
- Maybe somekind of sensor and IR receiver
- Potentiometer to control

I really like my FEZ Mini Robot.

I am totally ejoying my FEZ Mini Robot! I thought the C# code might be hard for me but I am really starting to like that language. It is a "shift" in ones thinking about writing a good program. Now I am sure I would "mix some things up" if I went back to programming on a Arduino.

No fears mate about the C# code running on the FEZ Mini, it works just fine. The build/deploy/debug procedure works, but it still holds a lot of secrets. (The FEZ Mini board sends back "Rebooting..." like your device is acting like small computer!)

IR navigation beacons

There have been several previous blogs and forums on LMR concerning different methods of robot navigation and room recognition. I have decided to make some IR beacons for experimenting with.

My theory is that if each room has at least 3 beacons spaced around it then the robot can not only triangulate it's position within the room but also determine what angle it is facing. Each beacon sends out a different identification code. This allows the robot to know which room it is in.

A little robots journey - Epilog

Bluetooth and XBEE

Hi, I am working on a project that includes contolling a robot wirelessly though visual basic 2010. And I was researching and found that if you use an xbee it is the same code as when using a usb cord. But i want to use bluetooth instead. And I was wondering if the code is the same when using bluetooth (like the xbee). I assume that it is the same because it is a form of RF. But I need to know from LMR if it is the same code with Bluetooth or is it different.

Robot Teaches Itself How To Walk.

Very interesting work of making a robot learn about itself using gyro feedback and programming in rules based around this.

Looks like it would be a quicker way to program robots to do complex tasks perhaps...
