Measuring temperatures for a temperature profile
As usual this is a project for my brother, but this time it was actually me that came up with the idea. My plan was to have an array of temperature sensors hanging … Read more

For multiple type sensor robots which is better

For robots that have multiple types of sensors, like adding touch sensors, light sensors, temperature sensors, and a mix, which is easier, Picaxe or Ardunio? Or is there a better microcontroller or setup? I know Lego's NXT has these abilties, but I wanted to know what other setups are out there that work really well or are the easiest to work with or put together.

Super Capacitor in solar power supply - a few queries

I intend to build a remote 'weather station'

The station will:

  • Be completley independant of any external power, ie, it will produce its own power via solar cell(s)
  • Measure temperature only
  • Transmit its finding over an RF link to an indoors reciever

Instead of using a rechargeable battery supply with charger circuit, i have decided to use a 35F, 2.7V super capacitor to smooth and store power.

Wanted: Sharp GP2D12's

I am looking for someone willing to trade. I need 3 Sharp IR GP2D12 sensors with the cables and I have:

Pablo the Pool Toy

Introduction

This is a concept for a robot to monitor and manage my swimming pool.

Design Goals

Multi Temperature Sensor Reading and Recording Device

The video shows what it does, but I will explain again here. It establishes a serial connection. When one of the switches is flipped it starts collecting data from the temperature sensor once every however long I want it to be for how ever many times I would like it to take temperatures...or until it runs out of memory. When the other switch is tripped it shoots the data out into the debug window. The other sensors' data is random numbers It works better if you take data from a sensor that is actually connected :P. I have to get more of the sensors.

Temperature Sensor?

Ok,

Right now i am planning to build a autonomous robot that puts out fires. It will go up to a tiny fire (about 4 inches) and then drop a tiny bucket of water (2 1/2 inches wide, like the ones that came with the old version of robosapien) on the fire. The bucket will be put on a platform attached to a servo. when the servo turns the bucket will pour. I am going to do this all with picaxe. I know how to use picaxe, and coding in basic.  Anyways what my real question is, Is there a type of sensor that i could use to find the fire and stop before it? Could I use IR somehow?

scientific zealot or teaological fundamentalist?

With regards to the idea of measuring resistance through water.

I started wondering if resistance could be applied as a measure of the brewiness of an infusion.

And in style with the "I can do science me" segment of "Brainiac", I will cut to the answer straight away: Nope! Is not doable.
