Live soccer robots on LMR

Recently Gareth suggested to me that it would be good to have 2 teams of my bi-ped robots playing soccer. This was too good an idea to ignore.

After talking about this idea backstage this is where we are at:

Holder & charger for mobile LiPo batteries (Open letter to Jack / DAGU)

Since I had good luck last time (http://letsmakerobots.com/node/7046) - I will try again.

This time, it is batteries.

As I was just talking with Gareth about, it is a shame that all the used mobile phones get thrown away, with nice LiPo batteries, even chargers.

And you can get really cheap LiPo's if you get some that should be sold as spare batteries to common cel phone types, or outdated models.

What I would like, would be a HOLDER and second a CHARGER. This would open a world for us!

Dagu is closing for Chinese new year

Just letting everyone know that DAGU will be closing for Chinese new year on the 11th of February. We will open again at the end of February so anyone wanting to order stuff from us may have to wait for a few weeks if they don't place their order quickly.

Spielwarenmesse International Toy Fair

As mentioned in my new blog, Jack and I will be attending the Spielwarenmesse International Toy Fair next week. We will fly to Nuremberg, Germany on Tuesday (2nd) and will be there till the 9th. Our stand is No. H6 / A-32.

If anyone wants to visit us but doesn't want to enter the fair then we will be staying here: http://www.hotel-aurora.info/

China 2010

21-5-2010

A few things have happened this last month. I meet Xiao Yue (Little Moon) about a month before I went to Australia. She can't speak much English and my Chinese is still very bad but she seems to like me anyway.

This was taken on her birthday. There was a bit of a food fight with the cake so we ended up with cream on our faces.

Computers stolen from DAGU

Just letting every one who has placed an order recently with DAGU know that their order will be delayed as our office was broken into again and most of our computers were stolen along with the work van. Since Claudia's computer was one of the stolen computers you should email her again with any recent orders made using the subject:"ORDER MADE PRIOR TO BREAK IN" so we can check it against what has been sent. We will have new computers up and running soon so there shouldn't be too much delay.

Sorry for the inconvenience,
OddBot (aka Russell Cameron)

LMR keyrings and other merchandise

During my time as a member of LMR I have seen the odd discussion about LMR T shirts, caps etc.  Jack would like to help promote LMR and is looking at producing some keychains.

The minimum order is 300 and it cost about $600 USD to have the mold made. We would sell them at cost ($2 USD) or give one out with every order from an LMR member. We are not doing this to make money but to promote LMR as the best robot site on the web.

Below is the design Jack proposes. What do you think? Does LMR need or even want merchandise?

Mr. Basic axles

This one goes out to those who participated in the first Mr. Basic Challenge.

The first batch of kits that DAGU Electronics sent out had some bad parts in it, and DAGU was quick to replace those parts, and the problem is fixed on the later releases.

Now I wondered if anybody got 4 replacement wheel axles (2 fronts, 2 backs) and kept the old ones? You see I need those old ones...

So if anybody is willing to post'em to Norway, I'd be really grateful.

Posting a robot page from DAGU

I was a member of LMR well before I ever heard of DAGU, I miss posting robots but have refrained from doing so in case others felt it was spam. It seems to me if I show the work that goes into making a DAGU robot, from idea to prototype to final product then it should qualify as a robot page as well as a component from DAGU.

Are my designs robot page worthy or advertising?

DC motors from DAGU

I'm putting together an order at DAGU. But I need to be sure about one thing. The DC motors (items 12 and 13 in the LMR price list), are they GEARED motors? I presumed they were, but then I mailed Claudia and I asked: "Item 13 (dc motor) in the list: Are these motors WITH gears?" and got this answer: "The DC motor will not come with gears". However I think she may have misunderstood my question cause they do look like geared motors....

Microservos from DAGU?

I was just wondering..does anyone have experiences with the 8g microservos from DAGU? I'm talking about item 19 in the PDF found on this page. How do they perform compared to other generic servos of similar size like HXT900 or TowerPro SG90?

DAGU will now stock polymorph and can offer you 1Kg for $22 USD. Admittedly shipping cost will increase that price but if you are ordering several other parts from … Read more

OddBot, Claudia, DAGU... they just rock...

Jeez, i ordered from DAGU 20 mini servos one week ago... and i already received them! That's even faster than most of the sellers in my own country!

So thanks to them, and thanks to OddBot who took the time to think about my special needs and perfectly fulfilled them, saving me a lot of time (and money!)

Here on LMR we are really lucky to have them all... :D

Parts List (Oddbot or Claudia, Help please)

8 Mr. Basics

14 Micro servos

1 set of sensor mounts

1 Magnifier thingy

1 LCD Screen

10 servo extension cables...

what would be the total price, with shipping, for all this. what is the benefit of the new Mr. Basic Board?

A word to anyone in the XMOS or Mr. Basic Challenges:

Fear me!

mr Dozer

im redoing brainy basic into a much better robot.
ive looked and learnt with robotics this summer, ditching the picaxe which i didnt get on with for the arduino.
basically he will be a bulldozer but with attitude.

Basic progress

Here are a map of parts in the Mr. Basic kit

Mr.Basic manual page 3
So far I've dicharded:
The wheels (13&14)
The bumper (17)
The battery holder (18)
The front axle shift metal fixer (20)

and I've mutilated/hacksawed/drilled:
an Axis joint device (5)
both Front axles(7)
The Chasis (11)
one Decelerated pinion chassis (12)

And I know some of the copper tubes (22&23&24) have a dark future ahead dating my trusted hacksaw.

I decided to build a pan/tilt mount using the DAGU parts I recently received. I did have a little trouble, but overall I'm pleased with the result.  You may notice … Read more
