Let's Make Robots!

Insect Bot Mini Workshop

Last Saturday I held a workshop in Xinchejian, our Hackerspace in Shanghai. The workshop was about to build an Insect bot mini.

Towards a Robot Kit for Maker Faire

I'm trying to come up with a kit to build at Maker Faire NYC this year. Chris the Carpenter and I ran a series of four workshops last year, that were in high demand. The challenge is developing an inexpensive yet awesome kit that can be made in an hour by just about anyone.

After my experience teaching 9 to 10 year old kids robots with the Rocket Brand Studios Tadpole kit, I'm looking for something that is simple, simple, simple. Still, I'd like to top what we did last year.

LMR Robot Building Workshop at Maker Faire NYC!

Ta Daa!

Thanks to the kind sponsorship of our friends at  we will be able to offer a robot building workshop at Maker Faire in New York this year!

Details will follow, but Picaxe will supply the PICAXE-08 Motor Driver Board, along with some funding.

Robot workshop in Copenhagen, Denmark (Saturday June 25th and Sunday June 26th, 2011)

Hi Everybody,

The hackerspace Labitat in Copenhagen is working with the engineers at Nokia here in Copenhagen to make a Tinkering Workshop at Nokias prototype lab in Sydhavnen.

In addition to workshops instroducing the rapid prototyping machines they have (3D printer, CNC and laser cutter), I'm doing a little robot building workshop, where the idea is to use the above mentioned machines to make mechanical parts for the robots.

The event is happening Saturday June 25th and Sunday June 26th, 2011

Bricked! ATTINY2313 Repair with HV Rescue Shield

This blog post contains my build of a "HV Rescue Shield" by MightyOhm.  The High-Voltage Rescue Shield is a high-voltage programming shield that fits on an Arduino.  The Rescue Shield works on 28-pin ATMEGA ICs and on 20-pin ATTINY2313 ICs.  My use/instructions for now only concern resetting the LFUSE (clock fuse) so that the IC can be used with a 16MHz crystal.

I bricked my $3 µC IC on my first attempt at programming.  Recently I found some DIY AVR HV programmers that could be made from stuff in my lab.
