Let's Make Robots!

Learning Electronics Via The J5 Obstacle Avoidance Robot

Hello to the LMR community. This first blog post is basically just an introduction for me and what I am about.

Maker Carnival Shanghai 2013

Well, I just want to review the Maker Carnival in Shanghai last weekend (Oct. 19 & 20).

It was the second Maker Carnival in Shanghai and I may say it was a huge success. Many peopel came not only for watching but also asking questions and got in terested in the general Hacker/Maker activities.

DFRobot as a sponsor of the Maker Carnival had a booth showing new products and projects. Her you can see the Insect bot mini prototype.

What robots did you start out using?

Hi everybody! I'm a new-found robot enthusiast and I was interested in which robots all of you hobbyists started out messing with. Any answers would be great I'm really excited to get started!Thank you! :)

On-line store up and running!

I just published my first website: www.salvage-1.com and it should be live any minute now.

I will be adding items on a daily basis as I have over 2000 part numbers currently in stock as well as all types of unique and interesting items.

There will be certain core items, (like the soldering stations), that I will always sell but other items, (due to the nature of the surplus business), will be limited quanity. What that means is, when they're gone, they may be gone for good. I buy at auction every other Saturday so there will be new and different items added continously.

Robot Combat League

A new TV show, Robot Combat League starts on SiFi channel. 8:00PM Arizona time but check your local listings.

Only caught a brief teaser last night but it looks pretty good. I just hope it isn't just hollywood's idea of fighting robots that are nothing more than men with vacuume-formed plastic body parts attached. We'll see:-)

I need YOUR ideas!! Please!

Helloooo all!!!

I wasn't sure where I should post this, but this seemed an ok place......

Sometimes, there are robots that are good as they are. It's not worth even to try to do my own spin of them. But because I like them so much I would like to have them/build them. So, I dedicate this blog post for reporting my assemblies of robot copies of other people famous robots in which I've just followed the instructions.

Artificial Intelligence Questionaire

Hi Guys,

I'm new to robots etc. I am currently doing a school project on artificial intelligence and wanted to do some research. I thought why not go talk to the experts so here I am. I have already done some background research and already know the general definition but part of the project requires me to gain information from a range of sources. This is a kind of questionaire/interview to gain new sources from experts.

Robotic Bee Colony

I was out for the weekend and it seems there was a lot of talk on this subject. It happened that I had one of my bee hives swarm and I had trouble retrieving it. However, this gave me a thought of changing the theme a bit: Robotic Bee Colony.

Online RoboCraft anyone?

You may have read my idea for a Mini Robotic Ant Farm. I just re-read it yesterday and today I had a new thought:

Online RoboCraft!

Unfinished Projects

I was looking through the Robots section on this website. I noticed a lot of posts (mostly old) of never started robot projects. These have pictures of parts, or hand drawn concept pictures, etc but the finished product never got completed for whatever reason.

Myself and a local member of a hackerspace in Detroit recently started a new website devoted to robotics in Detroit. Right now the site is brand new, with really no content. So what I'm asking you to do is to sign up on the site, create a couple posts, etc just to generate some content. I'm not asking you to leave LMR, just check the site out (whats there anyways) and if you're proficient at drupal send me a PM, so you can help out the site too! Thanks.

Google plus hangout Saturady afternoon 3pm PST.

Heya LMR folks,

I'm thinking of having a G+ hangout session tomorrow around 10am pst(I'm in California), 1pm est, UTC -7(I think).

If you want a gmail invite, send me a request by 9:45am and I'll send in invite your way and have a gmail account I can send it to.

I was thinking of just shooting the breeze, talking about bots, projects, and just general stuff.

maybe it'll be something, maybe it'll be just me some ambient noise....we'll see!  :)

Edit: modified time.

Advice on my next robotics project.

Hmm, I decided to come here on the off chance some one might be able to give me some advice.

I wouldn't say I'm an "absolute" beginner as I do have some experience with robotics, but its only been from kits, I haven't built and programmed something from scratch yet. Over the years I have collecteda great deal of items which I feel may be useful to create some form of robot, but its hard to know exactly where to start. Here are the details as follows:

Autonomous roaming using a variety of gaits

Future ideas- robots and paintball

Well I like to paintball with sum buddies and its getting bigger all the time so I have been involving robotics and electronics in paintball /airsoft.

-http://letsmakerobots.com/node/25679 (ill try to get my robot post on that one going, almost done :] )

So Im sorta running out of ideas that are worth using and cheap enough.

For example-http://letsmakerobots.com/node/23474 i learned it was a little too expensive for me - a kid- to make and experiment.
