Idea for Treaded Robot

I've been meaning to show Dickel my experiments with Vex treads. His MDi #2 continues to look amazing but Dickel has expressed some concern about the frame of his treads. Rather than using increased thickness of polystyrene, I wonder if some sort of box shape could be used to increase the stiffness of the structure.

Here are some photos of prototype tread mechanism.

Updated preview of new re-configurable, all metal tank chassis

Update: Just did a motor test using a fully charged 3S LiPo. These motor / gearbox combos are very powerful and will need a Wild Thumper controller to handle the peak current.

No load current: 0.6A
Nominal load current: 3A
Stall current: 11A+

This is definitely going to be the tank version of Wild Thumper!

I will update with "4.x" build.  But wanted to get video up as demonstration of concept.  SSH-->RPi-->I2C Optoisolator-->Arduino Mini Pro--->Self … Read more

NINA - The Robot

Hi everyone! I'm new to LMR. I got into robotics a few years back when something hit me. "Hey! I know what I can do this summer! I'll read books on robots and learn how to build them!" So that's what I did!

Treads?

Hey guys, I have a question for you. I see many of you guys using the track and wheel set from Tamiya (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=321) that is special built to be compatible with their dual geared motors. For such a cheap price you get a very versatile tread kit that allows endless combinations of tread length and design, however, it seems what's gained in inexpense, is lost in quality.

Nice litle set of belt-tracks. Kinda cute! http://www.solarbotics.com/products/gmtpkg/ Price is for a pair! You will need to sort out how to mount the 2 axels … Read more
