Idea for shift register circuits?

So, I've recently mastered the use of shift registers and have a handful of them laying around.(74HC595's)

Any project Idea about what I might build with them?(possibly something out of track)?

What I mean by this is not knight riders or led cube circuits, rather some whacky ideas - even abstracts will do.

Possibly some fancy circuit you have in mind?

I am not asking for schematics, just running low on inspiration..Any ideas??

Oh and I don't mind using my arduino along with it(As it is what I have!)

Crazy (or not) idea: Butler Bot

NOW THAT I HAVE PICTURES, I'VE DECIDED TO MAKE THIS INTO A ROBOT PROJECT - http://letsmakerobots.com/node/31415 THIS BLOG WILL NO LONGER BE UPDATED

Transition Ideas

I'm making a sort of alternate version of yellow drum machine. It uses the sharp proximity sensor. I was wondering how I would make the robot transition from navigating to playing the drums on the next object it encounters. I was thinking a switch, but that seems to weird. I want it to switch by itself.

I wander how fritsl got his drum machine to transition.

Dual Y-Bridge (was One and a Half H-Bridge)

I had an idea tonight that is either inspired... or stupid. Please help me determine which. ; j

I was thinking about using one of my new Picaxe-08 processors for a project. They only have 5 I/O ports, three of which can be either an input or an output. However, for my project, I wanted to be able to control two motors and two sensors. Since traditional dual H-Bridge designs would require four processor outputs to control two motors with forward and reverse, that would leave only one I/O port left. Boo hoo.

130 Megapixel camera

Check out this brilliant idea from a Japan amateur fotographer. He used an optical lens and a scanner to make pictures with 130-megapixel. This is a resoltion of 13,068 x 10,173 at almost no cost. See it here.
