Starter Robot Question

Howdy! I've been working on my "Start here" robot. I've not yet got a distance sensor (I am instead using a light sensor to take two readings moments apart, generate random numbers from them, and then compare those two so as to travel at random.) I do have a servo, but I have been enjoying having it play sounds through a speaker. Now, that being said, I'd like to hook up the servo, but A.) don't have the 330r DIL chip, and B) don't want to take out the darlington.

Ideas for competition/giveaway

G'day again fellow LMR'ians.

I've created this forum topic today to basically engage in a brain storming session with you all. To celebrate 2000 subscribers on my YouTube channel I wish to celebrate by holding either a competition or giveaway of some kind.

I have always enjoyed teaching and I can't believe how easy YouTube makes it for me to teach thousands of people! Better yet, the feedback on my videos has been great and for that I am truly in debt to my 'students' and followers.

PICAXE or Arduino For Starters

I am just starting out in the field of robotics, and I am looking for someplace to start.
I was wondering if anyone had anysuggestions on which hardware I should learn first.
My end goal is to be able to control my bots remotely via wireless of some kind.
I have listed two of the kits I am looking at getting below. One is the PICAXE starter kit from LMR and the other is a starter bundle for Arduino's from Solarbotics. Any suggestions would be welcome.

simple ardbot - start

I've just started on my first proper robot. I had a bunch of parts laying around that I had bought over the last several weeks, and when I was organizing them they sort of logically grouped into a basic robot:

Large Solenoid Actuator driven Display

Hello, I am new to this site so I hope you won’t mind if I ask a few questions that I am sure are going to sound quite amateurish to most of you.

I am an American living in Berlin working on a collaboration between two art research institutes here.  I have been given the task of putting together a proposal for a dynamic moving display. That will be featured next year as part of a conference on kinesthesia.

Getting Started

I want to get started, but I need help putting a decent started pack together. I know I need a board, download cable, etc, but what other toys should I start with?

I want to be able to start off small: get a light to blink. Then move to getting several lights to blink in order or random order. Then I want to move onto attaching a motor and getting it to spin. Eventually I want to build a robot that will do all of my work, but baby steps right?
