List of good online shops for bot parts

I was wondering where online most of you go to shop for parts? Can we construct a master list of important websites here?

This list is from the URLs I've gathered from the various tutorials:

Parts Prices (In US Dollars)

jklug80's picture

Here is the analysis I have done so far. I didn't look everywhere, but I did learn 2 things.

  1. You can't buy everything from 1 place
  2. It is cheaper if you buy from outside of the US on some parts

Here goes my summary: (For all intents and purposes, when priced in £ double it for US dollars. It is a bit less than double, but after your credit card company charges a fee to convert the purchase it will be close to double given the current rate of exchange on 5/7/2008)

Starter Pack (Picaxe 28 with USB cable)

where can i find these vex pieces?

okay, I have been scouring google trying to find the parts for the vex rcr mini walker crab thing, which should be displayed.

all the results I have found have been things like press announcements and demo robots built witgh this stuff, and none of it recent.

I personally want to build that walker, obviously with some extra personal touches added on, but I just cannot find the parts. every place seems to indicate that they were released, so did I just miss a limited run component or something?

Small Parts Store Canada

Gonzik's picture

Hey guys,

Does anyone know of a good small hardware store that is in Canada/will ship to Canada and not charge an arm and a leg for shipping?

I am trying to find something like this;http://www.smallparts.com/

Sadly this place charges an import fee and shipping that makes buying unreasonable for us Canadians.

Cheers,
Gonzik

I just ripped apart an old Samsung SGH-T739.

I was planning on using the vibration motor that is used for silent mode. As long as I have this thing torn apart, I'm curious about your ideas for what else might be good to use.

Really cheap parts?

Hello people of the world :)

Sorry I having been posting any robots so far, but for now I need your help again :)

Infrared Receiver

flare's picture

I've found heaps of places that sell IR emitter LEDs, like these ones: http://littlebirdelectronics.com/products/infrared-led-950nm-1pcs

But I can't seem to find any IR receiver LEDs, like the black ones used by many in their distance or motion sensors.

Can anyone point me to a place selling them, preferably in Australia?

Small nuts and bolts, where do you get them?

Renosis's picture
I asked this question once before in a bad spot I think. Where do you all get small nuts and bolts. I went to a local hardware store for really small nuts and bolts, like 2x20mm, 2x12 mm, and similar sized imperial nuts and bolts. I walked out of the place with like 30 bolts and 30 nuts and it was over $30.00!!! I used all of them on one project and still have to go get more. But at 45 cents plus a bolt, it is gonna bankrupt me. Is there a good place online to buy these things in like 100 packs or boxes or something for cheaper than a dollar for one nut and one bolt?

Scavenging

I dissasembled my broken TV and got alot of random stuff. Is there anything useful there? I found a diode and a IR reciever and alot of buttons and caps and resistors, and alot of stuff i cant identify yet, i will post pictures of it when i dissasemble it... What special parts should i look for? =D

Does anyone else break stuff to get parts from it?

Tayda?

rik's picture

Hi,

Anyone have experience (good or bad) with Tayda electronics? Please share.

I just googled this one part and Tayda came up as the absolute winner on price. Who would like to teach me how to order small quantities from suppliers far far away. Any caveats, consumer traps, unusual conditions, broken promises?

SF order on it's way[shipped!]

Since it's been a while since anyone has posted on this forum, just thought I'd post something.

Finally put my order in thats been in the cart on that fateful freeday. added a couple extra things to it as well since I have a mini project going.

Opted to get the polulu trex motor driver as well since my hbridge attempt has yet to work(though I haven't tried to trouble shoot it for a while) .

Got a couple of 20x2's to see what they are like and since they had some sweet hw access. Grabbed a couple of atmel 2313's since they have built in uarts.

Fingertech Robotics Question

Benbo231's picture

Do you remember when you sent me that hard copy pdf file of the high torque servo? With all the stuff I needed to Cad it? I need a hard copy of the servo horns it comes with. Please email it to Benbo231@gmail.com as you did before. Hurry, I am at a standstill until I get it, and my deadline is rapidly approaching! I have until the end of next week to CAD about 40 parts, usingabout 3 square feet of aluminum. Please hurry.

How far can you get in parts hunt?

Just an hour ago I have disjointed this little peaceful innocent birdy, just for a little switch as I ran out of them and did not want to stop my robot building proccess! I'm a feelingless monster...

The question of the day:

How far did you ever get in robot building fever? What dirty deeds you did and what sacrifices you put on altar of robot building?

Here are a map of parts in the Mr. Basic kit

Mr.Basic manual page 3
So far I've dicharded:
The wheels (13&14)
The bumper (17)
The battery holder (18)
The front axle shift metal fixer (20)

and I've mutilated/hacksawed/drilled:
an Axis joint device (5)
both Front axles(7)
The Chasis (11)
one Decelerated pinion chassis (12)

And I know some of the copper tubes (22&23&24) have a dark future ahead dating my trusted hacksaw.

Salvaging Parts

AmunRa's picture

Hi all,

I'm new here and wanted to know What would be good appliances or computer parts to salvage robot related parts? (motors, gears, electronics)

I saw someone take the HDD's motor, but it seems the use of it is a bit complicated, and I'm a complete noob.
Are all the motors in HDD's like the one he used or does it vary?
Thanks in advance,
AmunRa.

A good place to buy stuff in the UK

Ajster's picture

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to buy parts etc. in the UK. Obviously there is the picaxe store for the parts available on there. I was searching for stuff and it seems to fairly cheap and most parts are available form rapidonline.com but they don't sell stuff that is more robot specific and less general electrics.

Where do you guys get stuff from in the UK, or any UK store that you may use from abroad?
