What does it do?

A simple "first robot" that navigates around using IR

So, here's my first robot (yAFRO)

It has nothing exceptional other than running on Arduino instead of PICaxe and being built form an old snakes and ladders board. I choosed this track geometry to make it different than the usuall Tamiya tank chassis.

I still have much to do; the motor driver still doesn't work and I have to learn how to program the Arduino.

Since it's Arduino it can't be powered by only 4 AA batteries, do you have any good idea what type of battery I could use?

Update: I know :P, lots of updates.I am know in a super mood, because i finally found and fixed my problem.It turned out to be a stupid little soldering mistake. But know I have proggramed my robot to go fowards 3000 and then back 3000. SO far so good :). (Will post vid soon)

Update: I have hooked up my two motors and soldered them up to A & B. I have also glued the Castor.

Arduino: How to make your first robot with..

When writing this, LMR only offers "Start here" - instructions on how to make your first robot, using Picaxe.

"Nebster" wrote to me, and asked if I could do a parallel, using Arduino, and I think that is actually a very good idea (now that Picaxe refuses to pay me commission, haha)

Focus should be on making first timers get a robot up and running at a low cost, and most importantly learn how to hook up motors, a servo, and a analogue input in "no time".

My First Robot

I thought I'd wait until I'd made my first robot before making my first post. As you can see below, it's a complete rip-off of the (excellent!) first robot tutorial. The differences are that I had to tweak the code to make him move forward/left/right properly, and also that mine is a bit more hairy due to an abundance of wires :-) Not the sleekest of robots, but he'll be cannibalised pretty soon.

What does it do?

navigate around with IR and avoid stuff

This is igor, my first robot. His brains are a Make controller, a SAM7-based microcontroller which I gotta say was NOT the cheapest but for the most part is a joy to program. The chassis is an octobot chassis from budget robotics, with an extra deck which is not attached in the photo..

Anyway, I just put him mostly together tonight, and wrote a real quick app to test the IR rangefinders. I'm not really sure what his mission in life should be yet, but for now I'm just gonna try to make him able to roam around and avoid stuff.

Rebel, first attempt at building a robot.

What does it do?

Line following, Driving around free with obstacle avoidance

This is a first attempt at building a robot. For now it is able to follow a line, and to drive around free with obstacle avoidance. In the near future I will program it to follow someone/thing, and in the far future I will try to let it solve a maze. ie. find it's predefined goal in a maze. The programming bit wasn't the hardest for me as I am studying Computer Science. It was the electronics that I really had to dive into. But in the end that was also not the hardest. I really enjoyed building my first robot and I think many will follow.
