Android Java Newbie bluetooth help.

I am NOT a java devloper.  I work primarily in PHP and Asp.Net so you'll have to forgive me for this post, but i'm hitting up my favorite community of geeks for help as I'm sure many of you have written android bluetooth robot controllers before.

What "Brain" should I chose for my robot?

I am considering a more advanced  "brain" for my Service Droid robot. I know I could use the computer to do all the advanced computing and relay commands to the robot, but if possible, I would like to have an integrated system. So far, I see 3 variants:

1. Raspberry Pi + webcam (+ screen?)
2. Android phone with integrated front camera
3. Android tablet (4.3" screen) + OTG adapter + webcam

Com. between Android & Fez Panda

Hi Guys
Im planning to use my old Galaxy S3 for a sort of display/face for my small bot.
So i want to have some sort of way to communicate between my phone and my Fez Panda 2 board...

As i see it i got 3 possible ways to do this, WiFi, Bluetooth or USB.
I would love to do this over usb, but not sure if its possible ? My experiance with USB comm. is that it seems at bit complicated...

Any ideas, or experiences?

Accurate Indoor Localization using OpenCV, OCR

Just got this pieced together...Robot looks around, recognizes words written on walls and determines compass bearings to each.  Robot then determines what room it is in based on its memory of visual landmarks, and loads a map for the given room.  At this point, the robot calculates its location in the room to within a few inches.  Robot then knows where other features are within the room based on its map (Doors, Windows, Obstacles).  In the video, the robot announces the heading to the door.

ArduinoDroid

Finaly, after years of waiting, the killer app is here: ArduinoDroid an app that allows one to program an Arduino board from a tablet or (some) phone. Yeah, now you can pack light for that robotic contest or conference, no need to carry the whole laptop, just a tiny 7" tablet that you can also use to read, watch movies, play games... or quickly tweak your sumo robot's code.

How to make a controlled Arduino Robot via Bluetooth by using an Android Device

Can you Please teach me How to make a controlled Arduino Robot via Bluetooth by using an Android Device :D

I found some Application in Play Store about the Bluetooth controller, it is called Bluebots ,a Bluetooth remote control for robot. (see below)

4 OS-es at once on a Beagle Board...

Wow, the guys from Always Innovating are amazing! They managed to run 4 operating systems at once on a Beagle Board (and on the Touch Book and Smart Book tablets): Android, Ubuntu, Chrome OS and AIOS. By pressing the User Button on the Beagle Board you can switch between the started OS-es. Why would you need that? I have no idea, but I find it cool!

UGV trainer kit - Unmanned Ground Vehicle

Typically when I hear the words "Unmanned Ground Vehicle", I tend to think of military and off-road vehicles but these days big companies are investing millions of dollars on cars that can drive themselves.

This kit is an affordable beginners kit to help students and hobbyist learn the basics. Using the Arduino compatible Micro Magician robot controller with it's library of basic control functions ensures an easy and fun learning curve.

Little Black Duck - 12g, 2Kg/cm miniature servos from DAGU

Have you ever built a robot and then found your miniature servos were not quite strong enough?
Get yourself a flock of ducks! DAGU's little black ducks!

DAGU are now selling a 2Kg/cm servo that is only slightly taller than a standard miniature servo. The height difference allows for thicker, stronger gears and a bearing to support the load.

Polycarbonate 90° bevel gears with aluminium mounting brackets

When you build robots, sooner or later you will need a 90° bend in a drive shaft. Crown gears are fairly common but the teeth are relatively small and strip easily.

DAGU have now produced some relatively small, polycarbonate bevel gears to help solve your gear train problems. Unlike crown gears, bevel gears have a longer, tapered tooth that is much stronger and harder to strip.

IOIO-SHR version 2 sneak preview

Started this weekend with the 2nd version of my IOIO-SHR (Start Here Robot). Because Santa brought me a Rover 5 chassis on christmas, this would become the chassis for it. I got the 2WD version including wheel encoders and the motor controller board.

Here are some shots from the assembly test.

The IOIO is mounted on a carrier board with 3 pin headers for all IOs. Some Jumpers are available to select the supply voltage for the IO headers, 3.3V, 5V from the IOIO or external servo voltage.

Introduction: The IOIO-SHR is my first attempt in using Java to program a robot. Using a Sparkfun IOIO board to control the hardware and an Android phone as the … Read more
