How to buy (!) or make a Yellow Drum Machine

You can now buy a drumming robot, hand made by me, please see here for details :)

On this page I will help you making your own "Yellow Drum Machine" (from now on: "YDM", though it can be in any color, of course :)

If you have never build a robot before, I would STRONGLY suggest that you start by making this project. Many of the parts can be used in making an YDM afterwards.

Here is a link to the first / original Robot Wall Racers - and the walkthrough on this page shows how to make something like them.

I will keep it open, so you will be able to add plenty more yourself, or make your own version :)

As always, I recomend you to start with the the "Start here"-project, if this is your first robot!

I made this with Picaxe, but it is all simple, and the code is well documented, so any Microprocesser should do - please read more below, in the shopping-list.

What does it do?

He is working as well as he could be. Still some minor bugs. If I hold him he doesn't stop until he gets close to something. On the ground he only moves a few inches then thinks he hit something. I think having the servo, motors, and board on the same power source is messing up the range finder. I'll get a video posted tonight.

It was named Yellow Drum Machine II (YDM II).

And.. sniff.. now it is no longer with me.

How to build your first robot - Part III - Get a grip!

This is part III of a series I call “How to build your first robot”.

This part is not so much instructions of how to build & program, that was in Part I-II.

To finalize Part I-II, I will just say; I may put “construction time” to a few hours when entering a robot. And it is possible to make a robot in 10 minutes if you have the materials in front of you.

Here's my latest project. I liked Frits' Yellow Drum Machine so much that I decided I wanted to build one of my own. I'm working on the physical construction first -- once I have somewhere to mount the batteries and logic board, I'll glue on some drumsticks and start working on the drumming code. When my SRF05 arrives in the mail, I'll add that and start working on navigation. The last step will be adding the sampling board to record and play back sounds. Well, that's the plan, anyway :)

How to connect SRF05 to Picaxe 28 pin Projectboard

If you are a newbee, you may only have learned that the Picaxe 28 pin Project Board has some inputs and outputs.. And you may have purchesed an SRF05 (that Picaxe refers to as SRF005), and you are trying to connect the darn thing.. without resoult?

Reason is likely to be that you are connecting the output from the Picaxe to the SRF05 through the darlington on the board.

The SRF05 needs (like many other things) a Pulse-signal, not just a "power on / off". The signal therefore must come directly from the Picaxe chip.
