WINSTAR LCD WH1602A help needed (SOLVED)

Andres Briano's picture

Hello community!

I have started experimenting with a LCD and the Picaxe Serial Firmware chip (FRM010). The idea is to use it to display the values of an ADC input to help write code for my line follower.

I haven´t been able to display anything at all on the LCD (not even the welcome message). In the process of troubleshooting, my first stop is to confirm a weird pinout on the base of the winstar PCB.

ezLCDuino Backpack

patrickmccabe's picture

I am just going to make it clear that the boards are not currently going to come preprogrammed with some kind of serial LCD backpack code or other code. It will be up to you to program it how you please, but all the capabilities are there. I will be posting example code though and hopefully some tutorials to get started.

New parts

mlandergan's picture

Hello everyone,

So I took the quiz on free day over at Sparkfun.com . After about an hour of answering a questions in between re-loading pages, I finally answered to questions correctly before it was all over. So I got $20 worth of parts. So I didn't know what to buy so I bought some random parts for fun. I ordered these products:

Backlight LCD's Black on green 16 x 1 (14pin with 2 sepearte for the backlight)

I have found a place that sold these and I got 12 of them.

I have spent the time interfacing them to the Adruino board and mapping out what it takes to drive them.

For some reason these are hard wired for 8 data only.(sorry no 4 pin input)

However they work well. To display text on all 16 locations is tricky as you have to tell it to jump to another DDRam location.

I will see about getting an image of the device very soon.

Stuff in the mail

pips17's picture

Horray.

Today i just received two packets in the mail. In one of these was an lcd which i bought for less than 5$ incl. shipping, while in the other was a 434 mhz rf link kit, which cost around 8$. So far i haven't tested either, as i received them moments ago. I will soon be using them though, proabably to make a custom arduino rf controller, i only need a second arudino..

Project: graphing with graphical LCD using microcontroller

sagerosell's picture

anyone knows what LCd best suits my project?.. the project goes like this: An LCD will dipslay a graph of temperature profile of a heater -- that is, a thermocouple connected to the heater sends signals to the microcontroller and the microcontroller must send signals to the LCD to graph the temperature versus time line graph.

If anyone knows, how should the program go?..please help me

Picaxe LCD Direct Connection Problem

Hey There,

I've hit a snag on a project of mine. I've been trying to build a servo calibrator (to test a servo's limits and test them on robots before they're connected to the motherboard) which should operate by positioning a servo depending on the position of a potentiometer, and display the pulse rate on a 16x2 LCD. I've built one before, with an LED display and a single servo output, but this one should handle two servos.

Except it doesn't. I won't even handle one.  There's two major problems I've found which I'm looking for solutions to.

Cheap Lcd for picaxe etc

Ben967's picture

Hi,

I am new to LMR but for those looking for a cheap lcd I have found a brilliant one on ebay for under five pounds! It is 16x2, uses the hd44780 parallel driver, so can be used with picaxe etc, and even has a backlight!

I have just bought one but have yet to try it with a picaxe, will let you know when (or if) i get it working. Just follow the link below:

LCD?

electrictape22's picture
Well recently I have been reading about LCD's and trying to figure out how I would use them with a picaxe 28x1. I am pretty sure you use a serout command followed by a number that corresponds with where you want the dot on the lcd. Bottom line though is that I have no idea how I would wire A LCD to the picaxe28x1 or how I would exactly program it. And what exactly is the baud rate? If possible could somebody please help explain this confusion to me?

Servos for Sharp LCD

PICAXE and LCD

kankatee's picture

I have looked over CtCs post regarding similar issues with his LCD, but still can get mine to budge. I was hoping to get some guidance on my issue. The issue being I can't get the LCD to work or interface with my PICAXE. Like Ctc, I am using the serial backpack from SparkFun. Here is my code:
