Father's Day Contest

Gadget GangsterNick at Gadget Gangster has announced a PICAXE Father's Day Contest.

bluetooth com and processing language rig

These are the source files related to the setup I mentioned in CTC's post about wireless serial com.

Reposting info on the setup just for ref.

Alrighty, ctc, got the rig working. The setup is the following:

<ir beacon> transmitting byte sequence from 1-9

<relay station> picaxe 8m with ir receiver showing correct data in the debug window.

Transmitting the byte sequence received from ir beacon via bt to my desktop running the processing code.

Problems programming...

I have been using my PICAXE 28X1 board with success for a while now, and I decided to move on. I have breadboarded a PICAXE 28X1, but programming success is a little iffy. 99% of the time, the download page comes up with a normal downloading screen, but only one dot loads.

Messing with the Picaxe editor help menu

When researching the exact connections on my 28x1 projectboard, I scowered my directory C:\Program Files\Programming Editor\datasheets\ and found user.txt.

And guess what? It lets you change the help menu in your editor.

picaxe_userhelp_rtfm.gif

That fourth option was not there before! All that was needed was one extra line in the textfile:
PCB hackers need to Read this F*****g Manual now!=c:\Program Files\Programming Editor\datasheets\axe001_pcb.pdf

messing with the motor outs (A and B)

Just a thought:

(lets call the four motor outputs A1, A2, B1 and B2)

What would happened if I connected a GM10 (with the original spring still attached) between B2 and A2? Like in the illustration below

I was hoping to achieve the following:

Chips

So :)

There seems to be a good ammount of people here from both the picaxe and arduino camps, im an arduino man myself and havent really played with any pic kits.

What id like to know is if there is any advantage with one over the other, or even any other alternatives?

Whats your preference on things?

Tried the new Picaxe X2!

Holy crap, the programming is different!

Prepare to use extra time, or use the X1.

There is a "converter" in the latest Axepads, but it is not 100% compatible with all my dirty code.

Boy, this is different! More than I thought :)

However, I am sure it is wicked, a real step up!

HVW

I gotta recommend this online shop. For anyone in Canada (and the US) this is a great online store. They were recently-ish aquired by solarbotics, but still have a seperate website. They have fast shipping (2 days!) and great customer service (I received a picaxe chip with the bad firmware, they shipped me a replacement one free of charge)

 Anyways, I highly recommend them

Picaxe18x vs Picaxe28x

Hello, I am new to this site and i have ordered parts for my first robot. But i am second guessing myself- Should I have gotten the expensive 28x like i did or gotten the 18x? As this is my first robot, I'm guessing it won't be to complicated. Thanks!! :)
Beleive it or not, that thing without real shapes is a robot! It's my first attempt to make a bot with a brain, a picaxe 18X. He moves with 2 home-made continuous … Read more

Modifying picaxe8 proto boards to fit your needs.

Since my projects contain a lot of 08m procs, I decided a while back to grab a couple of the proto boards for for fun and experimentation. With these boards I also wanted to be able t o reuse them after doing some experimenting with them as we all know desoldering can be a chore.

So here are a couple of ways I'ved moded the proto boards.

1. Choped the proto side off of the board, added a set of male header pins and rewired the power lines. Also used the proto side of the board for a 6+v to 5v regulated via ldo reg.

Custom project board in progress...

Hi, I have a spare PICAXE 28x1 and L293D that I want to use for my first custom built circuit. But i have no clue what to do!!! The diagrams on the Picaxe website are so confusing and the ones in the manuals only show the pinouts. Can I just hook up 4.5 volts? Or do I need fancy shmancy support circuitry like capacitors and stuff?

Thanks guys!

UPDATE:

I have a diagram of the L293D and it is nice to have, but very confusing.

LMR Global Project

I know we have talked about this before, but I would like to get this going. I had an idea for a bot that I will likely never have the time to build msyelf. At least not for a couple years since it requires a lot of parts that I would have to figure out first and test. I would like to present that idea and find 3-5 other people who would like to work on a part of it and combine our efforts. We each post how to make our part and then we all share credit for the final project.

mini ir beacon

So this is the mini ir beacon I've had mulling around but never got around to building one....or finally built it. I'll post the current code for this in a bit.

The circuit is pretty basic in that it just uses a picaxe, an ir emitter, led, some resistors and a npn transistor. Ialso wanted to keep it small(hence the mini) so decided to use some lr44 batteries to get around 4.5v out. The battery holder was fashioned out of some 18ga colid copper wire which does a great job of holding things together.

 The setup

TAG WAR!!!

OMG, I just realized that the tag "Picaxe" was third, Under both Arduino, and even the silly tag "Robot"!

So, I am now re-editing all my robots that use Picaxe to fight evil open source system Arduino!

pwmout newbie questions

Why is this code not registering on my multimeter?

#picaxe 28x1

main:
pwmout 2 , 62, 250 ' 100% @ 16 Khz
pause 2000

pwmout 2 , 62, 25  '  10% @ 16 Khz
pause 2000
goto main

I measure DC over GND and digital output pin #2. And it keeps reading 0 V. Is the pwm too fast for my meter? Should I put a cap in/accross?

Update 26/04/2009 I have added a video to show the picaxe modifying the servo signal based on the output from a Maxbotix EZ0 (EZ1 version here at LMR). The … Read more

Starting programming with picaxe?

Hi,

What is the best way to begin learning to program with the picaxe microcontroller? I searched for books, but for now I'd rather focus on free online ways to learn.

How did you learn to program picaxes?

Thanks :)

4 CHIP BOARD BY R4 SYSTEMS INC. PICAXE

I BOUGHT A 4 CHIP BOARD MADE BY R4 SYSTEMS INC.  FOR PROGRAMMING AND TESTING PICAXE CHIPS.  SEEMS TO BE A GREAT BOARD, HOWEVER THE DOCUMENTATION ISN'T SO GOOD.  DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO OBTAIN THE SCHEMATIC ONLINE FOR THIS BOARD.  THE HARD COPY DOCUMENTATION SUGGESTS THAT I SHOULD OF RECIEVED A CD WITH THE BOARD WITH THE SCHEMATIC ON IT.  I WENT TO R4 SYSTEMS WEBSITE AND DOWNLOADED THE DEMO SOFTWARE WHICH INCLUDED MANY SAMPLES BUT NOTHING ON THE 4 CHIP BOARD.

Picaxe Not Connecting

Well for some reason the new picaxe software is not working at all for me. My computer is not connecting to the picaxe. I have my chip in the right way, I have done a reset, I have made sure in the options it is on the right setting (08, and com1) I have 4.5 volts, and I have even changed the batteries. I don't even get any blue in the download progress board. I just get the same error message. It is really annoying as the old program editor was able to connect without a problem. Anybody have any ideas?
Update: Hmm.. I found that it pulls a trailer really well.. Hmm.. And the Omni's are really easy to navigate. Hmmm :) I was waiting for my omni wheels to arrive, … Read more

Advice - PICAXE to PICAXE IR

Guys-

The goal is to allow 2 PICAXE chips to speak with each other via IR.

What receiver and transmitter have you all had success with. Where can I purchase? (links?)

Thanks all.

PICAXE and LCD

I have looked over CtCs post regarding similar issues with his LCD, but still can get mine to budge. I was hoping to get some guidance on my issue. The issue being I can't get the LCD to work or interface with my PICAXE. Like Ctc, I am using the serial backpack from SparkFun. Here is my code:
