Let's Make Robots!

Gakken interview - for the record

Dear Rik,

Thank you again for cooperating in our magazine.
(And also for introducing about us in your blog too!)

Following is the questionarie that I want you to ask about your Theo Jansen style robot leg.

Note to self: zipit runs linux

I just learned about a thingy called zipit. Apparently it can run a linux distro and then the world is your oyster. Click the pic.

Just mentioning it here so I will ind it again when searching my fav search engine.

Timing interval between interrupts - which Picaxe?

Is this true? A Picaxe08M is awesome, except it will not give me a way to measure the time between interrupts?

Should I upgrade? Which Picaxe do you recommend? I am looking for a minimum pin count.

Don't say Arduino now, ya hear!

guide light, conduct air, be tubey
When your project, like mine, needs a tube pipe to fit exactly around something, consider making your own. I could not find anything with the exact inner diameter … Read more

A watched meter never boils

I would love to be able to have continuous readouts from my electricity meter in my home. Such a tedious job is time consuming and tedious. So I need a robot to do that for me.

Darwin is a hacker

How many monkeys on type writers does it take to write the collected works of Shakespeare? Or Asimov for that matter? It has been claimed, but never tested, that a limited amount of monkeys will indeed produce such a work.

Given enough time...

DarwinBot lives

This continues my previous experiments with evolutionary code generation. I built the simplest robot imaginable to test out pieces of code. This is 1069-H1 aka "DarwinBot".

Breadboard Jumper Wires Conspiring with Resistance?

Yup, that's:

Live Show - themed episodes: call for suggestions

In the last live show episode 013, we suggested doing some more themed episodes. Number 13 was all about "support chips". Now please tell us: what are some of the themes you would like us to use?

But most of all: tell us how much you love the how. Because we need that kind of praise to keep the momentum going! ;-)

(That's a WINKY, in case you missed it!)

elp-hay me on my sensor network

Hair brained plans galore! I am planning on flooding my house with environmental sensors. Temperature for starters. All over the place. And of course I want my readings to be gathered on a central machine. Live. So, no data logging on separate memory chips. I need some sort of network. With wires and stuff, because I do not trust the airwaves for this sort of thing. Also, I am a cheap skate.
