Heat sink

So I've read in many places, I need a heat sink on my motor driver chip.

That's no problem, I'm assuming a chunk of metal will do the trick, but how do I attach it?

Is there a certain type of glue I should be using? I only ask, because I don't want the glue to melt.

Edge Detection

I've noticed a lot of robots with edge detection, to prevent them falling off edges (obviously).

I'm curious as to the type of sensor used for this. I'm assuming it's IR, but are people using an off the peg sensor, or making their own?

Floating ADC inputs

Just been reading about floating analog inputs. I understand it a lot more than I did, thanks to you guys on here, but I'm still not 100% on the subject.

What I really need to know, is...

Do all the ADC inputs on my Picaxe 28X1 project board need jumpers on them? Even though I'm not using any analog inputs.

Thanks Lads,

Picaxe code

Hi all,

I've been busy over the past few days studying the Picaxe manuals and trying to understand the coding. I keep reading about how easy it is and it's even called basic, but my problem is, I don't understand any of it.

My electrical and mechanical skills are enough to get me by, but this programming makes no sense to me what so ever.

I've Googled in an attemp to find online tutorials, that doesn't seem to help either.

Can anyone explain how they learned the Picaxe basic coding? That might help me.

Picaxe, programming and peanuts

Hi brain boxes,

I'm a bit stuck at present. My problem is, I know nothing about programming. I don't know much about anything really, but programming is really low on my list of knowledgable subjects.

I'm trying to programe my picaxe chip and have no idea what I'm doing, I tried eating some peanuts, but even that didn't help. I still have no idea what I'm doing!

So, I thought someone may have stumbled across an online tutorial of somekind. If someone knows of such web page, if they could let me know and I'll give them a peanut.

Thanks fellers,

Bumper switch help

Hi all,

So I got most of my robot parts. I still don't have any kind of sensor for the front, which is fine for the moment. I'll buy one when I have more cash.

Barking mad, or barking up the wrong tree?

Ok, so I told my wife I was building a robot (which is going to be based on the start here robot). When she asked what it’s going to do, I told her it’s going to wander around the house avoiding obstacles. She wasn’t impressed at all (does anyone else have a wife who doesn’t understand?). She replied “Is that it?!” I had to think on my feet, so I told her it’s also going to bark like a dog when someone knocks on the door, so they assume we have a big dog.

I wanted to print out some Let's Make Robots logos for the side of my robot. I have no idea how to do this. Any sugestions anyone?

Same idea as me

Someone's had the same idea as me. Beaten me to it as well

Ultrasonic sensor

I have this ultrasonic sensor, it's from a part of a Cybot. I was wondering if anyone's used one of these on a Picaxe and if so, did it work?

It's a 9v part, so I'm unsure if it will work on Pcaxe.
