Hacking Chumby One

I came across some posts on a different discussion board about a nice Wireless internet radio clock called Chumby One. I have found out that it has linux inside and is easily hackable to be used as a robot brain. There are already sample bots out there, I have just started to look into it and thought it might be interesting for some of you. I have almost no knowledge of how linux stuff goes and I don't think I can do much with Chumby at the moment, so I will be interested if some of you guys manage to make it your robot's brain. Perhaps using Python? or Processing?

ArduSpider

I have seen this robot on the Arduino Forum and I find it so great and inspirational that I had to share it with you guys.

Here is Jose Julio's ArduSpider Build Log:

Google releases Android robot libraries

While Apple says it is against App Store rules to try to use an iPhone as a robot controller, Google has released Android robot libraries.

I read on the Arduino forum about using cheap Nokia data cables as a compatible "FTDI cable". I decided to have a look and started to shop around for a compatible … Read more

Arduino Shield for building robots

I've been asked by a few people from different places if there is a simple way to use an Arduino to build robots. I explained there are ready made boards like Roboduino, Romeo, Motoruino, etc. that can be used. Or a custom compatible board. I told them that I went both ways, mostly because Roboduino doesn't have an H-bridge onboard, so I designed my own customizable board, R-Dev-Ino. Usually people are puzzled with all that information, as they have heard about Arduino, some have used it in art projects or so, but did not hear about the other variants. Seems complicated...

Micro servo for robotics?

Have any of you tested this micro servo? It looks like it was designed for robotics, has mounting holes on the sides that usually are called top and bottom and has an opposite hole to the spline. So it should be easy to mount it on brackets and build a biped or an arm... Any thoughts?

I wanted to make a small Arduino robot using an original Duemilanove and the Robot Builder's Shield. But I also wanted to have a chassis plate so I can mount the … Read more

Remote control panel with video in Processing

I need to make a RC panel in Processing that will communicate with an Arduino robot through a xBee link. The robot will also have a wireless micro video camera, surveillance type, that will get received and fed through a USB video capture adapter. I need to display the video in the same panel. The panel will have buttons for commands and a text area to display sensor values.

I am new to Processing, can anyone point me in the right direction how to implement the requirements for this project?

Thanks!

Free online Arduino courses

I received word about some free online Arduino courses, perhaps there are people here that want to enroll.

In 2008 I have built a simple balancing robot, mostly a copy from a balancing robot made using a Basic Stamp 2 SX, found on the Parallax Forum, that I have adapted … Read more
