Let's Make Robots!

Shooting mosquitoes with lasers

Straight out from Shoutbox I just snatched this:

gimmelotsarobots: On the bright side, mosquitos are now being killed by self guiding lasers. http://intellectualventureslab.com/?page_id=563

Searhced around, and found this cool video of death!

LMR 2 years old

At the time of writing this, LMR is about to celebrate it's 2 years birthday, and already people are bringing presents in the shape of birthday related pictures and stuff.

Please, if you are doing so, link to it from here (if it is a robot, blog entry etc) - (or directly write below if applicable)

Hoorayy :D

Should we kick out vendors? Please vote!

Question: Are we seeing too many vendors on the pages, making challenges and pretending to be friends and stuff?

We ARE planning to see lots of vendors products in a new components section that we are working on. But I am sure that will just be nice for all of us; Cool products nice to browse, and a nice place to showcase what you sell (unlike now where it is a not so nice list)

It soon is time to have another LMR skype social weekend!

Yes, yes.

Will you get drunk, and join in? Theme will be telling people long tales about what you do when you are not making robots.

No one sticks to the theme anyway.

However, the word "Hello" is prohibited, anyone saying it will be kicked off the line.

Do you have a fast connection, can you host?

What distance sensors are better and best?

I am working on a much faster & stronger version of Robot Wall Racers, using quite fast RC-cars

I want to use lasers as distance sensors, but I think they will be a little over budget, altough this is a paid for job :)

Yes, SRF05's clai, they can detect a broomstick on 3 meters.. but in reality they are not stable before say 1.5 meters.

1.5 meters when you are traveling at 25km/h is NOT a lot, when you even are set up with drifting tyres.

Hi dear fellow robot builders, members of LMR.

As I am sure you know, OddBot has made us some cool contact with Jack from China, the guy behind DAGU Electronics.

Now I also had some talks with Jack himself regarding a production of some of my stuff (Thanks Odd).

Mounting brackets for SRF05 (Open letter to Jack / DAGU)

SRF05 is still IMHO the best low-cost distance sensor.

And there is still no good / smart / fancy / easy / pro / cheap way to mount the darn thing on a turning neck / servo / front..

We now have a good contact to DAGU from China who makes cheap and cool robot-stuff.

So.. I thought.. Why don't we make some suggestions to how we would like such a mounting thing(ey) shaped and made? And then ask Jack from DAGU if he could start producing it?

This was my idea.. and now I need your help and ideas towards the design :)

Tried the new Picaxe X2!

Holy crap, the programming is different!

Prepare to use extra time, or use the X1.

There is a "converter" in the latest Axepads, but it is not 100% compatible with all my dirty code.

Boy, this is different! More than I thought :)

However, I am sure it is wicked, a real step up!

Make robots talk.. to each other.. dirt cheap!

I have this thing in the back of my mind that "the next step" for me must be my robots talking to each other.
