Let's Make Robots!

World Maker Faire NY 2015!

June 11, 2015:

I'll be hosting a Google Hangout this evening at 4:00 PM EDT to do some planning for the faire. It will mostly be Rick and I, but anyone is welcome to join and contribute. Reach me on Google+ if you want to be added. (https://plus.google.com/+AndrewTerranova/posts)

Discussion:

What's your favorite software for robotics?

Which software do you use for making robots?

This could be software for anything you use in your robot making, from conception to design, to testing and control. I'd like to steer away from listing microcontroller development environments (Arduino IDE, PICAXE Programming Editor, etc.)

Post your favorites in the comments and I'll compile a list.

Pics for updated Maker Faire Postcard

Hey, All!

The first year we did Maker Faire, we created a really neat postcard that included lots of pictures of robots from LMR members. I want to update the postcard with some more recent pics.

Please let me know in the comments below if you have a nice pic of one or more of your robots you'd like to contribute. Include a link to the robot page where your image is posted.

I have room for about 8-10 new pics, so let me know ASAP!

Know any robot makers going to Maker Faire Bay Area?

Does anyone have any personal contacts for robot makers who are attending or presenting at Maker Faire Bay Area this year?

I've been lucky enough to be invited by MAKE to cover robotics for the event. I'll have access to a list of all the robot-related makers and vendors. However, if anyone knows a robotics company, group, or maker who is attending I can make a special effort to get over to see them.

I'm really excited about this opportunity. It's the first time MAKE is asking a non-staffer to participate with their team in this way, and I want to do a really good job.

Holiday 2012 Gift Guide: Aerial Drones

Make Magazine asked me to write a short online gift buying guide on aerial drones. I really didn't know much about the topic going in, but a lot of research later, and here is the Holiday 2012 Gift Guide: Aerial Drones.

I want to thank everyone who commented or emailed me input. I really, really appreciated it!

I've been asked to write a short online gift buying guide on aerial drones. I only have a couple of days to do it, so any advice is appreciated.

LMR Banner Available for Events

Hey, all! Oddbot had this great banner created for the ShenZhen Mini Maker Faire.

The original banner is 2.8m x 1.8m @ 300dpi giving a resolution of  33,071 x 15,354 pixels. Here is a much smaller one for you to look at. Click on the photo for a bigger image.

Let's Make Robots has big plans for Maker Faire New York (September 29-30). Check this page for the latest info.

Or visit LMR at Maker Faire 2012, which has links to LMR activity at other Maker Faire venues this year.

3D Printed Logobot?

I haven't jumped onto the 3D printing bandwagon yet, but I know a lot of you have.

I was thinking, wouldn't it be super cool to have a 3D printable version of our beloved Logobot?

It would be a fun project, and a great little printed object to test your printers, give as gifts, or make up for events like Maker Faire.

Instructables Hands-On Learning Contest -Picaxe Maker Faire Special

Hey all. Instructables is running a Hands-On Learning Contest. Some folks might be interested in making an entry.

I've entered the Picaxe Maker Faire Special Robot kit that Chris the Carpenter and I are designing into the contest. You can Vote For It using the banner link at the top of the Instructable. Any votes would be appreciated.
